Stunning scenery and a thought-provoking message today:

Loved By All: The Story of Apa Sherpa: Every spring the summit of Mount Everest draws people from around the world. But in its shadow live the Sherpa, a resilient, religious people, who, despite the riches surrounding the highest peak on earth, are still quite poor and uneducated. A child of the Khumbu, Apa Sherpa climbed Everest 21 times. Pulled away at the age of 12 to work as a high altitude porter, like so many others, he would leave his family for months, risking his life on the mountain. Through his work at the Apa Sherpa Foundation, he aims to create a different future for his people. As Apa says, "without education we have no choice."

Make sure you watch in full-screen!

Big World: "As parents, how do we teach our kids that there is a world beyond social media, standardised tests and football practice? In April 2018, David Morton and his seven-year-old son Thorne embarked on a week-long stand-up-paddleboard journey down the Karnali and Bheri Rivers in Western Nepal."

A couple of nice short ones today:

Bob & Marion: “It’s the agony and the ecstasy,” reflect Marion (78) and Bob Luker (81). An intimate portrait of a lifetime's marathon running, set against Dartmoor's epic landscape.

The Balloon Highline: You won't get much closer to Skylining than this!

Despite the uninspiring opening screenshot, one of my favourites so far:

Of Choss and Lions: "Two of America’s boldest rock climbers and self-proclaimed fashionistas, Alex Honnold & Cedar Wright, travel to Kenya’s Mt. Poi. The guys dodge choss, wild animals and general debauchery to claim ascents of Africa’s biggest big wall. It’s, uh, character building."

Been looking for a great surfing film and found this Jeremy Jones' Life of Glide: Inspired by a poem he wrote long ago, big mountain rider Jeremy Jones summons his greatest influences and dissects his lifelong passion for the simple and sacred feeling he calls, "The Glide."

Today a couple of entertaining but very different takes on mountain biking:

RJ Ripper - Nepal MTB Champion: Rajesh Magar (RJ) learned to ride a bike at 10 years old, getting lost in the streets of outer Kathmandu. He rode his first technical trails on a bike he made himself with scraps, including; a scooter spring for suspension and piece of plumbing.

How to Buy a Mountain Bike: an alternative way to get into the sport:

Guilt Trip: The only thing greater than this group of skier's desire to claim a first ski descent on Greenland's second highest peak is the size of their carbon footprint to get there. Loaded with guilt, they decide to bring along renowned glaciologist, Alun Hubbard, who’s scientific hypothesis, if proven, could rewrite popular projections of global sea-level rise.

The Road From Karakol: In summer 2011, Outdoor Research athlete Kyle Dempster took off on his bike across Kyrgyzstan with a couple mostly-accurate maps, a trailer full of climbing gear, and a vocabulary of 10 Kyrgyz words. He spent two months pedaling and pushing the bike more than 1200 km on roads of variable states of neglect, wading through wild rivers, dealing with corrupt military checkpoint staff, and soloing a handful of unclimbed alpine rock and mixed routes. He recorded the journey, his camera his only partner, friend, and sometimes the only receiving end of his conversations for days at a time.

Two short ones today.........

Changing Course: Clare Gallagher was headed toward medical school, until she realized the path everyone else wanted her to take wouldn’t make her happy. So she took one step back, 100 miles forward, and went in a new direction:

Full Moon: Night skiing without artificial light: Closing lift stations and the setting sun mark the end of the action for most skiers. Not for Max Kroneck and Jochen Mesle. While ski towns fall asleep they head into the mountains and see them awaking in a new light:

In 2018, Hilaree Nelson and Jim Morrison completed the first ski descent of the 27,940-foot Lhotse, the fourth-highest mountain in the world. This is their story.

The visuals on this one are stunning, watch it in full screen at 1080p resolution or above if your device and broadband is up to it.

A couple of different but very uplifting films for your consumption today.

First up, "The Frenchy" - Jacques Houot, 82-year Old French Ski Racer and Colorado Mountain Biker:

And for a bonus feel-good, Dean Goes Surfing: a teenage boy who loves breakfast, Rihanna, and finding freedom in a wave.

I was in several minds about what to put up as today's offering, I've got some really good ones lined up. But I was fascinated by the short clip within yesterday's film of the guy flying through the hole in the rock in his wingsuit. It's got to be the most dangerous thing I think I've ever seen. I found out that he was Uli Emanuele, an Italian base jumper, and he was famous for that flight and also for flying through a ring of fire. Uli died in a crash at Lauterbrunnen in Switzerland in August 2016 while shooting a new video.

So today, here's a closer look at that crazy stunt by Eli:

And here's a video of another wingsuit flyer called Jeb Corliss flying through Tianmen Cave in China in 2011. If you search for Jeb Corless you'll find that he had a very serious accident the year after he did this but came back to fly again. Apparently there is a video of the accident published too:
