Hi Amazon,

I've moved your post to the older thread so that you can see what was said before.

Advice is still the same about getting quotes from MCS Accredited Installers etc.

I would warn you that you have missed the boat on the really attractive tariffs and I don't know if they are worth doing or not at current rates.

Without wanting to gloat, the original tariff when I had mine done was fantastic and it was the best investment I've ever made - the panels are more than paying for all my electricity AND my gas! Having said that, it will still be another 6 or 7 years before my outlay has been recouped but the sunshine recently is racking it up and they are supposed to be good for 25 years ;D

Thank you for your advice .mark .

would you mind telling us the cost of this system .and do you buy them yourself and have them fitted .

I'm not going to tell you what I paid for them no. As I have said, I was in the fortunate position to have been able to get them at discounted cost. If you are interested you should get quotes from MCS accredited installers such as Verde Heating Solutions or Ade Thomas, who are both local and accredited.

Normally you buy and install them through the installer but you can talk to them about options. They MUST be installed by an accredited installer otherwise you will not qualify for the Feed In Tariff, which is the whole objective of the exercise.

Denise - if you have room for a 4kW system then it should be a simple exercise to determine the best return on your investment - Darren or Ade will both be able to prepare illustrations for you on that to help you decide.

I have a ten panel 2.5kW Array using Sanyo HIT250 panels. Darren at Verde priced a number of different systems but I decided to go for the highest output / most efficient panels (and therefore most expensive).

The panels are fitted to the roof using a Shucco mounting system, which attaches to the rafters. I had quotes from Adrian Thomas too and I have a friend who had panels installed by him and he is also happy.

The reason I chose Verde is because I have know Darren personally for a long time and I also do his web site for him, so I got it at "mate's rates". I would recommend getting a quote from both Darren and Adrian and at least 1 other (I'm not aware of any others locally but there may be).

Most companies will give you a budget quote based on Google Earth - this allows them to judge the size of your roof and the direction it faces, which are the key factors.

My panels started generating at 1pm on 22 April and to date have generated 1176kWhours, which is an average of 9.4kWh per day.

The highest in the last 31 days is just under 16kWh and the lowest just under 4kWh. I don't know what it will be outside of the period it has been installed yet obviously but if you have in mind a particular day I can tell you what it has generated from the USB data hub that came with the Sunnyboy Inverter.

Thanks for your details. The Sanyo panels do seem to be well specified but, as you say, they are expensive. We are still deciding but may go for cheaper units as we want a 4KW system to maximise the feed in tariff.

Hi Mark

Can you give us more information.  How are the panels fixed to your roof?  Are the rails fixed to the roof joists, how much power are you getting on cloudy days?

Cheers

Have a look at A Thomas Plumbing & Solar Limited

I've not used them myself but I've heard good things about them.
