Thanks tricky.  So he was a candidate, but not an MP.  Still a good name tho'.
Sorry about that. I really thought he'd got in at an earlier date but was only in for a very short time. Wonder who Dad was talking about when the window gag came out?

Hi Annesley and welcome to the forum.  I'm sure you're correct to take the view that your ethnicity was not an issue in the 2010 general election.  If you are prepared to demonstrate a long-term commitment to this area (as Andrew Stunnell did), then there is no reason why you could not, in time, win this seat.

Dear all,

I just wanted to say thanks to those who posted nice comments about my recent radio appearance. It is always nice to hear good feedback  :)

In relation to the other point raised about my race: At the last election, I can honestly say that I don't believe it was an issue and I didn't make it one either. In my experience, the vast majority of people in the constituency (including Marple) were perfectly polite towards me regardless of whether they were going to vote for me or not.

Of course there may have been one or two difficult ones unfortunately but you would expect to find that anywhere.

Residents were more interested in what I believed in and stood for - and quite rightly so.

Have a merry Christmas and a happy 2012.

Best wishes,
Annesley Abercorn

The supermarket issue is the biggest thing to hit Marple For a long time.  So if  ANY party had an ounce of sense they would see an opportunity to either bring  about change via another party taking control in Marple  or the existing party to up their game and realise that their seats in Marple  have never been so unstable.

Marple, and much of Stockport really, expect a local person or someone who has shown a commitment to Stockport.  Andrew Stunnell isn't from round here originally but he has served his way through council positions before winning the Parliamentary seat. He also came back over and over again before winning, how many different Tory candidates have we had over the last few years? Will we in fact get a different one next time anyway?

Exactly!  And I don't think it's just round here that people look for candidates who know and have lived in the locality.  Stunnell has lived in the North West (mostly in this part of it) since he came to be a student in Manchester 50 years ago, so his local credentials are impeccable.

If you look at Abercorn's cv, he's obviously a clever guy and a rising star with good prospects in the Tory party, but I think they'll need to find him a safe seat.  As for the outcome of the next election here in Hazel Grove, contrary to what Duke Fame believes, I'm no Labour supporter, but don't rule them out next time, as people register their disappointment with the coalition (over to you, Dukey  ;))

Duke.. i don't think there is any more racism in Marple than anywhere else.  Sadly its a fact of life that we have to ashamedly accept is out there and more so over the last few years.  Having had a very heated discussion in the pub the other day with someone who is a generally a very decent, run of the mill, middle classed person telling me all muslims are terrible and only nice to us in public(and a variety of other stuff) its something I find incredibly difficult to deal with.. though i had a bloody good go :D

So I might vote for Annesley next time simply because he is Asian.. We need a change locally and he would be a breath of fresh air.  Its the Tory thing I'm having great difficulty with though...

BUT.. I doubt he ll get in, or at least not via Marple voters because Marple, and much of Stockport really, expect a local person or someone who has shown a commitment to Stockport.  Andrew Stunnell isn't from round here originally but he has served his way through council positions before winning the Parliamentary seat. He also came back over and over again before winning, how many different Tory candidates have we had over the last few years? Will we in fact get a different one next time anyway?

Shadwell Moxley - terrific name!  According to Wikipedia:  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hazel_Grove_(UK_Parliament_constituency)

....Hazel Grove has only had Liberal or Tory MPs since the constituency was created in 1974.  Maybe Henrietta is remembering an MP from before that time?   Anyone know what constituency we were in then?  Chesire East??

Lib Dem/Tory = same difference. Let's have a Labour MP.
We had one once (before I was old enough to vote so probably before any of you were around). He wasn't much use. The canard went round that he had only spoken in the House once and that was to ask for a window to be opened. I have it in the back of my mind that he had a name like Shadwell Moxley but I could be wrong

I think Marple  needs and deserves a complete change

Are you unhappy with Andrew Stunnell? Why?
No ! Not yet !   But MARPLE is watching all elected members now !  Like I have said before, gone are the days when deals were done behind closed doors. Even though it plays havoc with my social life, I along with others intend to be at every Area Comettee meeting, listening, learning and questioning.  It's quite interesting really I bet you didn't know that we call our neighbourhood police officer a sheriff ! Blimey what with Cassidy and her son dance kid, MARPLE will be Dodge City next
