Friends of Marple Memorial Park's WWI Timeline Tribute display in the park has been updated with information about Bernard Harold Hartley.
Bernard's was the last death of 1916 for Marple.
From a newspaper report at the time: TRIBUTE TO A HERO: - A faculty has been obtained for the placing of a marble tablet in All Saints' Church, Marple, in honour of the memory of Lieutenant Bernard H. Hartley, killed in action in France, only son of Mrs. Hartley of Stockport Road, Marple. It is being placed there by his mother, who is the worthy mother of a noble son, who was a soldier and a gentleman.
The display is fixed to the railings in front of Hollins House in the park. It starts on the far left with an A4 poster explaining what's happening and an information card about Bernard Hartley has now been added. Cards about the remaining men will be added progressively over the next 2+ years on the 100th Anniversaries of their recorded dates of death.
