Help Reveal Oldknow's Legacy at Mellor Mill

Do you want to help at Mellor Mill with the project:

“Revealing Oldknow’s Legacy: Mellor Mill and the Peak Forest Canal in Marple”?

Last year, MAT were surveying public opinion in Market Street, the canal towpath and the Roman Lakes, as part of the work for the application for a Heritage Lottery Grant for ‘Oldknow Legacy. Mellor Mill and the Peak Forest Canal in Marple’. You told us that you would like to be involved.

In September, we learned that HLF awarded the project a £1.5 million grant. It has taken time to settle all the contractual arrangements, but we are now ready to make a start and are following up the names on the list and seeking more help. Are you interested in helping us?

At Mellor Mill, there are a variety of ways in which you could help:

·   Heavy digging.
·   Careful archaeological trowelling.
·   Sorting finds.
·   Clearing undergrowth.
·   Making paths.
·   Acting as a guide.
·   All equipment supplied.
·   And more.

Training will be given wherever necessary.

People offered help for events and historical research. Let us know if you can help us in these ways.

To find out more, please contact Ann Hearle at ann@MATrust.org.uk or Bob Humphrey-Taylor at bob@MATrust.org.uk.
