”A Soaring Success for Hawks”

Hawk Green Brass Band along with Marple Brass Band represented The North West at The National Brass band Championships of Great Britain on September 23rd. at Cheltenham.  After performing a very challenging 3rd. Section piece of music, based on the Penlee Life Boat Disaster of December 1981, they were awarded “The British Bandsman Trophy”  and 3rd. place overall.

Seventeen qualifying bands from all reaches of the UK competed to find the Best Band, but after qualifying last year too, Hawk Green Band knew the standard expected would be high!  This year they exceeded their wildest dreams!

Adjudicators commented on Hawk Green’s “… good atmospheric playing, creating drama and imagery with lovely solo work from principal cornet (Hayley Tuite) and the impressive rhythmic sections….  A very good performance with controlled neat work!”

Musical Director, Neil Hewson, said.. “ The hard work and commitment of the band has paid off and we’re all delighted that this should be recognised in a national context!”

Hawk Green and Marple Bands’ next concert is at St. Paul’s Church, Compstall on 9th. November 7.30pm start.

Hawk Green will also be playing at The Plaza Theatre, Stockport on 30th. November as part of a “Spirit of Christmas” show raising funds for Stockport’s Well Spring Kitchen.
