Stockport Council is taking part in a regional project to help local people gain advice on how to start-up and maintain their own successful business.

The Council’s Library & Information Service has recently launched the ‘Ask About Business’ scheme, in partnership with 10 other library services in Greater Manchester and the North West.

It provides support and access to information through events and a dedicated website which helps the following groups of people:

new business start-ups

local businesses already trading

jobseekers

consumers

inventors

business students
There are lots of useful resources available that can help people get free business to business credit checking, research markets, trends and competitors, or find new sales leads and customers. Jobseekers can also use the research facilities to help prepare for an interview.

Councillor Shan Alexander, Executive Member for Leisure, said: “Our information resources can answer a wide range of questions, whether it’s for business and commercial use, or a personal consumer issue. It’s a difficult time for the economy and especially small businesses and sole traders. Using this service could save you hundreds, or even thousands of pounds, and help you stay competitive.”
