Alison's right : Somerfield are a privately-owned company, not listed on the stock exchange, they are not owned by Walmart or ASDA.

Co-op have indicated they want to purchase Somerfield (all 900 stores), see http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/7352189.stm.  ASDA fancy buying 600 stores, while Sainsbury's fancy 350 of 'em.

So perhaps Marple will become like its neighbour New Mills and have two Co-op stores? http://www.yell.com/ucs/UcsSearchAction.do?ssm=0&scrambleSeed=13250258&keywords=&companyName=co-op&location=new+mills&x=0&y=0&M=0

Um - as far as I am aware Asda have not bought Somerfield - they were considering an offer for some of the stores, but the only potential bidder for the whole estate is the coop. This was right as at April, and there is nothing more recent than that on the bbc news site

I think it has now changed and no longer 24/7  I think it closes at 10pm now

its still 24/7 they just have to lock the doors at ten and serve from the hatch because of security reasons

I called in there today and had to wait in a very long queue, all the pumps had vehicles at them and many where unoccupied. I suppose some were just shopping and others doing both shopping and buying petrol.

I did suggest to one of the staff that perhaps a "pay at the pump" facility would have been useful.

All in all, I do like the store, I just hate going in the Co-op, its just a pity its not bigger with more parking
