Sports Hall to close?

he idea that our elected representatives are barred by our own council from communicating with their consituents via this excellent forum is truly bizarre!    Let's hope the problem can be resolved.  

It's possible that SMBC's sytem is set to automatically block non-business usage.

I doubt it, as students can access Facebook Youtube etc without any hindrance. Although it is possible that the IT guys at the college added this forum to the "block" list. I can't confirm this however.

Just heard that people who work at Hibbert Lane campus  conected to sports facility have already been sent emails to inform them that as from 2014 they will be based on the Buxton Lane campus.    Now hold on a min! I thought no decisions had been made as yet.?  Oh dear now I am becoming very concerned at the goings on at CAMSFC   Just incase you have forgotten CAMSFC you have not got planning permission yet, have you ?

Don't want to doubt things but why would staff get 2 yrs notice of a move of 100 Mtrs, it's hardly time to negotiate a relocation package

I've submitted a FOI to try find out the official word on the removal of sports facilities from Marple.

Loss of sport facilities in central marple

Dear Stockport Sports Trust,

I trust you are fully aware of Cheadle+Marple Sixth Form College's
intention to close the Hibbert Lane campus, and in the process deny
people in Marple the associated sports facilities (indoor and
associated green space).

Could you provide details of correspondence/discussions (together
with minutes where available) that the Trust has had with any other
parties concerning this ?

Could you also advise what plans the Trust has to ensure that the
people of Marple continue to benefit from the much loved sports
facilities provided so close to the centre of Marple?

Ive had problems with my forums sometimes where people think they cant get access. Its generally the people!

I d suggest you contact the councillors personally and ask them to step through what thy have done and what message comes up to suggest to them that they are "banned"

Ive asked some councillors to comment on certain subjects on the forum.  Including when I was told that people seemed uninterested in a particular issue ( the forum suggested otherwise)  Ive never had a response to those requests.

As Peter mentioned below, he forwarded this thread to our Local Councillors. He has received the following reply from Councillor Shan Alexander:

Cheadle & Marple 6th Form College
The leisure Centres are closing to the public with effect from 31 December 2006. With membership and bookings declining in the face of increased competition it has not been possible to cover the cost of running the leisure Centres for a number of years. This decision has not been taken lightly. Given that the core business of the college is the provision of 16 to 19 education the college has reluctantly decided to take this decision to close this facility to the public. The Leisure centres will be still available to the students. There are very new and excellent facilities available at Marple Hall School.

Sale of land
Cheadle and Marple 6th form College has no intention of selling any land at present. They have asked for a feasibility study on the buildings at both sites. This is to look at the viability or otherwise of running a college on one site and to look at building a college of the future, fit for purpose to achieve the highest standards for students, teacher and all concerned. There has been no planning application sent to the planners at the council.

I can confirm that there are redundancies at the Sports Centre, although not any details of numbers etc.

Two of our local councillors have attempted to register with the forum so that they can reply but seem to think they are being blocked. They are not being blocked by our system, however, it may be possible that if they are accessing the Internet via a council provided connection then there is some kind of block put in place by their own network administrators.

Any of you techies out there suggest anything? We do seem to have SMBC workers who are able to post with any problems, which is odd. Perhaps the block is only on councillors?

Just gone on the web site for the college, and would you belief it but one of our esteemed councillors is actually a member of the Governing body.  As they haven't resigned over the closure of the leisure centre I take it they are in favour of it!  Oh, the college also runs a leisure centre in Cheadle, I wonder if that one is closing as well?

Dave, I think there is something that SMBC can do and that is not grant planning permission for housing or retail development on the site.  They (our local councillors) could list access issues regarding the increase in traffic and if retail development was requested the impact the additional HGV's would have on a road that is slowly slipping down the hillside.  They could also use the loss of a local amenity as grounds for refusing new development of the site.  But that would take brave councillors!
