Compstall Cricket Club in the Community

To whom it may concern,

Compstall Cricket Club is a 153-year-old community cricket club run by volunteers with its costs covered solely by fundraising and donations. A small group of people put in hundreds of hours every year to ensure the club remains viable. We pay no one to run the club and receive no ongoing subsidy – all the money we raise is put back into maintaining the club as a community facility for now and for the future.

The past few years have been challenging as our pool of volunteers has shrunk, leading to the club almost ceasing to exist when the pandemic struck. We have taken small steps to get the club back on its feet again and in conjunction with Marple Cricket Club have managed to ensure that cricket has returned to Ernocroft Road over the past two summers.

We intend to further develop both our cricket and social offerings but in order to do so we need more help! From helping to maintain the ground and facilities to coordinating and managing a social events calendar, we are looking to get more people from the local community involved in the running of the club. We want fresh ideas as we move forward, so the club becomes something that the local community can be proud to be part of.

With this in mind, we are holding a ‘Compstall Cricket Club in the Community’ forum on Saturday 17th February at the pavilion on Ernocroft Road, 1pm - 2pm. We are hoping to engage those who may be able to contribute some time and energy to the Club in any way they can. If you are passionate and want to be involved please come and listen to what we have to say and let us have your input and suggestions – the more the merrier!

If you would like more information, please contact one of our volunteers directly:

Thank you for taking the time to read this and we hope to see you on 17th February.

David Bailey, President – Compstall CC
