Photos of Mellor Mill Fact and Fun Day added to the Virtual Tour

Arthur Procter captured what looks like a great event at Mellor Mill and Roman Lakes on Sunday and his photos have been added to a new album on the Virtual History Tour:

OPEN DAY AT MELLOR MILL: SUNDAY 11TH SEPTEMBER 2022 11AM TO 4PM

GUIDED TOURS OF MILL SITE

Mellor Mill was a water powered cotton spinning mill built in 1792.  It worked for 100 years until it was destroyed by fire one November night in 1892.  The building was knocked down and the site reverted to nature, until a group of enthusiastic industrial archaeologists started investigations in 2011.  Since then the foundations of the mill, waterwheel pit and later steam engine and boiler house have been uncovered and the site has been landscaped so everyone can go and see it.

Every year Mellor Archaeological Trust (MAT) hold an open day and provide guided tours of the site.  Do come along and see it for yourself.
