Rose Hill school get letters frequently telling people the landlord from the Railway is happy for school  cars to use his carpark for school drop offs.  Maybe someone from the Dale could confirm this with him and get a letter printed out.

I'm also a Dale parent and am also outside the catchment area. We do try to walk, but you do need to be organised to do that! When we drive, we also use the Railway car park (although I am not aware that there is an official permission, I just thought that as the pub wasn't open I would not clash with pub users). There is also the car park for Rose Hill station, which doesn't tend to be full, and would be convenient for both the Dale and Rose Hill schools. I am not sure about whether people go on to work or not (sometimes I do, although I do use the train - I would take the car on those days I would need to go from school to an after school activity - there is a bit of other juggling going on outside the school day.

Another reason for minimising car use is road rage, and I have been at the receiving end of it in Marple (I didn't pull out of Bowden Lane onto Stockport Road quickly enough for the car behinf me, even though it was chockabloc with traffic) - a sad day, as I thought I got away from that when I moved away from the South East ...

Whatever the reason for using the car (and some of us do try to minimise it), I agree that there is no excuse for the sort of inconsiderate parking I see around the schools.

I'm a new parent at the Dale and we haven't been told about the Railway allowing parking in the pub. I have parked in the postoffice carpark before but its difficult to get in and out of at peak times.  We do not live in the catchment area of the school and most of the parents who drive DO NOT either or have to travel on to work/college afterwards.

No, I didn't say you should risk your childrens lives, don't talk like such an idiot, and I didn't say that you should be scared.  All I am trying to tell you to do is that moaning on message boards rarely makes any difference, people need to get together and do something properly.  My point about approaching people was not saying you should be scared, its simply pointing out that not all members of society will greet your point of view regarding where they have dumped their car with a smile or an insult back, they would greet you with a fist, bat or some other form of physical violence, trust me, I've seen it happen.  Don't even begin to think, "no, that wouldnt happen in a quiet town like Marple on a crowded street", because it already has done, and will do again.

Yes, I agree on how bad the parking is in Marple and Marple Bridge, terrible.  If something is not done then people will simply stop using the various businesses they are parking in front of /near to...they will simply go out of town where parking is ample.  So...how about every body stops moaning about "that van they saw outside the chippy the other day" and "that lady on zig-zag's" and do something constructive to improve the situation.  One last thing I'd love to mention to all you people who take it upon them selves to approach people they consider to be doing something wrong/parking incorrectly, be very very careful, because one day you might just upset the wrong person and end up getting hurt.

I have twin toddlers and am sick of having to wheel my twins into the road as people park on the pavements. I also ask them to move their veichles, I have knocked on houses/shops before now, many are rude but some do move and say sorry.

A man was parked up in a van the other day near the bathroom showroom, I asked him to move as otherwise I would have to walk into the road, he just smirked at me.

Another hotspot is the garage on church lane, customers and staff are always parking on the yellow lines and totally blocking the pavement. Why should I keep crossing? (or walk on the road with a turing you cannot see into on the right and another on the left)

If I scratch their cars (by accident of course) with the buggy, I would get done for criminal damage despite their illegal parking- they get away with it, the council do nothing. So into the road I go with no choice. A disabled man in a mobility car tried to get past a car parked on the pavement at this garage last week and he nearly tipped his car over and fell out, that is awful.

I also agree about school parking. I live over a mile from the school (RH) and walk most days with no problem (except the pavements! ). But many people that park down on elmfield and bowden live within about 5-10 mins walk and are not on their way to work. They have even started with the 4x4's.

People there too park accross the pavements, the worst of it is they do not wait until a passing child is out of the way before they drive on/off the kerb.

Have you also noticed how often that paint firms van is parked just before the crossing by Rose Hill post office.

It completely block site of the crossing and motorist coming from the post office or off licence.

Now the dark nights are here, it will be worse, I just wish he would use the driveway all the time

I'll be getting a name for myself soon. So far this school term (that's just over a week! ) I have spoken to two drivers parked on the yellow lines outside the Bowden Lane entrance to Rose Hill School. I would love my daughters to be able to walk to school on their own in year 6, but I have great worries about them crossing Dale Road. Why can't people be bothered to walk to school any more? The Railway Pub have allowed use of their car-park for those attending the Dale or Rose Hill School who need to come in a car. But, I suspect that for many the walk to school from the Railway pub is still TOO far!

Don't start me off on parking at the other end of Bowden Lane either. The Bathroom Showroom employees seem to think that they can park on the pavement. I also saw three lorries parked on double yellow lines last week, whilst their drivers went for their fish'n'chips!

Further to Howard's posting.

The Bowden Lane entrance to Rose Hill Primary School is absolute chaos at school start and end times. Some parents seem to think that the double yellow lines are there to reserve parking space for them.

Dale Road is mostly blocked due to inconsiderate parking of parents from both Rose Hill and The Dale primary schools.

Surely if a child lives within the catchment area of a primary school then they are close enough to walk. No wonder so many of our young children are obese.

It's not just near the Post Office and this isn't really a new topic. Do you remember this discussion thread about the lockside rat run? I'd list the following, in no particular order:
1) The Church Lane end of Union Road? Those double-yellows might as well not be there.
2) Have you seen the service road behind The Hollins being used as a car park instead of people driving up the extra 100 metres and paying 20p to use the library car park?
3) Outside Archer's. Have people no conception AT ALL of the double yellows and what inconvenience it causes other drivers and pedestrians?
4) The bus stops in front of the Holins seem to have at least one car in permanent residence for people going to the cash machine or the off-licence
5) The Stockport Road end of Bowden Lane has cars parked on both sides of the road nearly all the time.

I was talking to a taxi driver the other day about how much he hates doing jobs in Marple. They're almost always local trips, within Marple itself and almost always less than £2. We seem to have completely forgotten how to walk anywhere in the town.

Since the flats were built on the Jolly Sailor site, the residents of Station Road now find that they have nowhere to park their vehicles. Some of these residents now park on Hollins Green Road, there being a convenient pathway onto Station Road. Whilst we can apprecaite their problem, we on Hollins Green Road are now suffering the inconvenience of them parking on our cul-de-sac. This causes obstructions to service vehicles, visitors, and emergency vehicles. Only recently a service vehicle could not negotiate these obstructions, which necessitated a smaller vehicle to return to service the bottom end of the road. What if a large fire appliance required access?

Ahhhh, inconsiderate parking in Marple. Give me the wardens book and I'll write them all tickets happily.

I can't use the words I'd like to cos Mark would have to pull the post but the worst for me are the so and so's at the Methodist church who seem to think the double yellows are to keep the space clear for them personally when they wish to abandon their cars 18 inches from the curb.

I'm not talking about people with elderly or disabled passengers either, I can accept their short term (ab?)use of the restricted parking even if some do seem to linger for a while, but to the others sorry, if you can walk 50m - and yes that's you too kids - you have plenty of legitimate parking available....

Better go and lie down now.....
