I'm pleased to report that last night's Art Auction raised £856 for the Skatepark Project, which is actually worth £1,712 to us thanks to Council match-funding. This means that we now only have £5,700 to raise to reach the £100,000 target and achieve our aims.

Thank you to all the artists, photographers and author who donated their works free of charge.

Thank you to comedian Graham Heywood, our auctioneer who made it a most entertaining evening and also gave his time free of charge.

Thank you to the volunteers who acted as runners and a special thank you to Steve Abbott and Joyce Reed, who have worked tirelessly to take the event from idea to reality.

Thank you to Phil Jarvis and Marple Conservative Club for providing a great venue for the event free of charge.

Thank you to Marple Co-Op for providing a fabulous hamper for the raffle.

Thank you to Robin Sunflower for providing musical entertainment and the other musicians and singers who came to support him too.

And finally, a big thank you to the people who came along and supported this event with their cash! We hope you enjoy your purchases.

There are some lots that didn't sell, or didn't reach their reserves. Once we've got these recollated they'll be offered to raise a few more ££'s!

Do you know why the photographs have the skatepark logo at the bottom? I'd bid for one, it probably obvious which one,  if it didn't have that.

Simply, that's the way the students and the school chose to do it. They have provided everything as is themselves.

The big day is here at last and we start with a rather different lot to raise some extra funds for the Skatepark Project donated by local author Chris Simms.

Chris has provided copies of two of his acclaimed works:

Sleeping Dogs (priced £10.99 on Amazon) is the seventh book in the critically acclaimed Detective Inspector Spicer series.

A Price To Pay, audio book, (priced £15.89 on Amazon) is the second book in a series with a female lead character: Detective Constable Iona Khan of Manchester’s Counter Terrorism Unit.

Chris Simms has worked in airports, nightclubs, post offices and telesales centres. He now lives in Marple with his wife and four children.

Along with nominations for the Theakston’s Crime Novel of the Year award and Crime Writers’ Association Dagger awards (for his novels and short stories), Chris was selected by Waterstone’s as one of their ‘25 Authors For The Future’.

Reviews for Chris include these:

'Chris Simms combines psychological insight with gritty realism to give the reader a genuinely exciting story' Crime Time Magazine

'Simms keeps you guessing' Daily Telegraph

'An exciting new psychological thriller' Daily Mail

‘Chris Simms has been quietly building one of the best police procedural series in the country’ Catholic Herald

We're delighted to confirm that the entertainment during the Art Auction will be provided by Robin Sunflower and Friends.

Robin is a great performer and is the host of the Open Mic nights every Tuesday from 9pm at the Navigation Pub.

If you're a local musician at a loose end on Friday 14 October you would be most welcome to come along and join Robin in some Open Mic sessions too.

Please SHARE this event and invite your friends everyone!
