HAWK GREEN BRASS BAND KNOCK THEM FOR SIX

For the second year running Hawk Green Brass Band, based near Marple had outstanding successes in the Tameside and Saddleworth Brass Band Whitsun extravaganza on Friday May 28th.. This annual event is often referred to as the “Greatest Free Show on Earth,” and attracts thousands of people to hear brass band music of the highest caliber.   Brass bands from across the country and some from abroad, compete for prizes in different venues and villages within the area.

2015 was a highly successful year for local Stockport Brass Band, Hawk Green (Marple). Last year they achieved had a “hat trick” + one, of 1st places but this year the Band knocked the judges and crowds for six with, 6 first place wins and a 2nd. place too in their section.

The band came first out of the ten contests in which they participated; The Broadoak Hotel, Denton Cricket Club, Drolysden, Heyrod Village,  Hurst Cross, Stalybridge and a second place at Audenshaw saw Hawk Green beat bands from higher sections some of which also enjoy sponsorship from large companies, e.g. Jaguar/Land-Rover.

“The band’s playing warmed audiences’ hearts on a cold, chilly late spring evening,” said the band’s chairman, Ian Clarke.  Musical director, Neil Hewson, was delighted with the band’s success and how they remained focused despite the cold weather.
