SPEAKERS FOR 2019

Ludworth and Mellor Women's Institute Monthly Meetings.
New Members and Visitors are always welcome.
All meetings are held on the first Thursday of  the month at the WI Hall, Lower Fold, Marple Bridge SK6 5DX at 2.00 p.m. for 2.15 p.m.


THURSDAY 3rd JANUARY
We start the new year with an origami workshop. Come along and learn how to make something amazing out of paper!
 
THURSDAY 7th FEBRUARY
Why not join us at our February meeting when Jenny Riley, the editor of Crochet Now magazine, will talk to us about all things crafty and what is involved in putting together the UK’s no.1 crochet magazine.
 
THURSDAY 7th MARCH
Come and join us at our March meeting when we welcome Chris Webb, author, playwright and former scriptwriter on Brookside and EastEnders.
 
THURSDAY 4TH APRIL
Come and join us at our April meeting when Zeta Emmett from the Cheshire Federation will explain the work of ACWW in improving the lives of rural women across the world, supported by the Pennies For Friendship collections at our meetings.
 
THURSDAY 6th JUNE
Why not join us at our June meeting when Keith Birkett will entertain us with a talk on the history of Roberts Bakery, a family-run company that’s been baking for over 100 years.
 
THURSDAY 4th JULY
Why not join us at our July meeting when Elaine Pratt will explain the history of the Garrick Theatre in Stockport, the oldest “little theatre” in the UK.
 
THURSDAY 5th SEPTEMBER
Ludworth and Mellor Women's Institute Monthly Meeting will be published as soon as the details have been confirmed.
 
THURSDAY 3rd OCTOBER
Why not join us at our October meeting when we will be staging a mock trial with the help of the Magistrates in the Community team. Members of the audience will be invited to play all the parts and, ultimately, be the judge!
 
THURSDAY 5th DECEMBER
Why not join us at our December meeting when we welcome back by popular demand the Ladybrook singers with a festive concert!

4th January - TACKLING FOOD WASTE
In response to the WI's national campaign on food waste, Simon Lea from ASDA in Marple will be explaining to us how ASDA is tackling this problem.

1st February - A VENETIAN CARNIVAL
Textile artist Lesley Crowley-Bull will show us her stunning work celebrating the Venetian Carnival and model her sumptuous original costume designs.

1st March - THE PANKHURSTS: FIRST FAMILY OF FEMINISM
Join us when we hark back to the time of our founding 100 years ago with this fascinating talk by Anne Beswick.

5th April - TBA

10th May - Members' Meeting - This meeting is for members only

7th June - A HISTORY OF ROBERTS BAKERY
Keith Birkett will entertain us with a talk on the history of Roberts Bakery, a family-run company that has beeb baking for over 100 years.

5th July - "A PENNY'S WORTH"
Penny Dean OBE will inspire us as she talks about being born with dwarfism and coping with childhood, marriage, children and society.

THERE IS NO MEETING IN AUGUST

6th September - ANNE WALLACE OBE
Anne is not just the owner of Taylor's fish and chip shop in Woodley but also a pioneer of community and adult learning schemes which help improve the lives of local people.

4th October - ELIZABETH RAFFALD
Suze Appleton will give a talk on Elizabeth Raffald, an 18th century celebrity chef and entrepreneur who published Manchester's first trade directory.  Suze will explain why Elizabeth deserves to be remembered!

1st November - ANNUAL MEMBERS' MEETING - This meeting is for Members only.

6th December - FLORAL DEMONSTRATION
We welcome back the very popular Liz Bishop of Jungle Blooms with more of her beautiful floral demonstrations all of which can be won in our raffle!
