Many thanks for the suggestions. I am trying to research  whether my Bowdens are related to the coal merchant Bowdens. My great grandparents lived in the Chapel Houses.

Bowdens coal merchants were started in 1870 by Jack? Bowden at Heys Farm Ludworth Marple Bridge, his son Sam then took over, then his two sons, Young Sam, and Ronnie, followed by Young Sam's son David until he retired c2000. Old Sam lived in the first house on Bowden Lane, Young Sam lived on Dale Road, Ronnie on Church Street, and David still lives on Ley Hey Park. I hope you can understand that. Ray.

There was Bowdens Coal Merchants based at Rose Hill Station Yard, one brother was called Sam, but can't remember the other one.

Have you searched the Virtual Tour for "Bowden"? Most of the pics that come up are of Bowden Lane but there is one with a number of Bowdens at Marple Carnival.

Looking for descendants of the Bowden family - John and Sarah with their 5 children, Fred, Annie, Ella, Ernest and Jessie. Were living in Marple in the Chapel Houses in 1901 - John was a cotton twister, probably at the Hollins Mill.
