brilliant response, thanks Klaire
I will be printing that out and taking it with me. I'll try and find out some more about the comedy festival - we are there just before easter so It would be great if I could find a show to go to. I'll do a search for a Melbourne tourist office tonight.
Cheers for the warning re the deadly eight legged beasties - I may be buying some spray when I get out there - or at the very least a rolled up newspaper. I am taking comfort from the fact that my cousin, and her various visitors over the years, are still here to tell the tale - so the odds are on my side '<img'>

My cousin, who lives in Melbourne, tells me that everyone has their house sprayed so the beasts with more than 4 legs stay away.

Have a good time

Henrietta.

G'day Marple

Klaire Stenson here (nee Drury) feeling the heat down-under, after a disasterous summer, autumn has brought the sun from behind its cloud and now we are in for a couple of hot ones over the weekend so I guess we will be heading for the beach to create glorious sandcastles and devour buckets of ice-cream!

Originally from Romiley, then moved to Marple in 1980, I ended up here 'down-under' after meeting my husband Andrew in Manchester in 94 and now live here with our 3 kids and 2 dogs.  We run our own construction company and even though I am a stay-at-home Mum, do the book work and the day to day running of the business.

Don't know what else to tell you, really, but if you do remember me, please get in touch - you can even use this personal message thingie which is interesting.

Hi Alison

The weather is good for how long I have no idea - but if you are coming to Melbourne in March there will be plenty for you to do.  Moomba is on and lasts a couple of days - a great big fair like Marple in a way with rides and side shows.  This is along the banks of the Yarra River with a laser show at night - absolutely fantastic.  You can go along and watch the water skiing from the bank of the River and cook a BBQ on the 'free' electric BBQ's provided by the council.  It is a fantastic day and if you are there when it's on, I can whole heartedly recommend it.

The Melbourne Festival of Food and Wine starts next week - think it's only on for a week though but if you get the chance you will have a ball.

St Kilda has an arts & crafts market on Sundays - lovely way to recover from a hangover!  Also in St Kilda is Luna Park which is a fun fair - a bit like Alton Towers, loads of brilliant pubs along the beach and fab restaurants.  Do the cafe thing for breakfast - can't beat it if you are a people watcher - you may even see some celeb's roller blading along the prom!

The Comedy frestival is on over Easter - so there will be loads of things to do - some will be in Melbourne and then the outskirts - ie St Kilda - as you can gather it really is the place to be.

As for creepy crawlies - well I have to tell you that they are there.  Most of the things is Victoria can't do you much harm, but you do have to be vigilant.  We have hairy spiders called Huntsmen - will bite but very rarely as they scarper as soon as they see you.  The white-tail spider is little and black with a white-tail - hence then name - that does bite - pretty nasty but not lethal!  As for Sydney and Perth - red-back spiders in Sydney and more snakes than Victoria - I wouldn't worry too much though if I were you - when I was there - saw nothing.  There is too much to do in Sydney to even start telling you about which I am sure you will find.

Perth - well what to do in Perth?  There's load to do but you have to go on a boat trip along the Swan River - fabulous, there are dolphins and everything, they swim along side the ferries just brilliant you have to do that!  Get over to Rottnest Island too - no transport on the island but you can hire bikes - and you HAVE to wear a helmet - bad hair day or what!

There is SO MUCH to do everywhere - I am sure you will have the time of your life - Aussies are brilliant - they love the English accent and will have you talking to them just to hear your voice - gets on your nerves sometimes but it is great to be the centre of attention!!  The scariest thing that I have found since living here is the Police carry guns and everyone is mad on the roads - they overtake in EVERY lane and most roads are at least 3 lanes wide.

Anyway if you want anymore details let me know - I hope you have a ball, but if you are a tea drinker, I recommend that you bring your own tea bags - I have Mum ship me over PG Tips twice a year!

Hi Klaire

I'm really glad to hear it is sunny & warm over there as I will be visiting Melbourne (St Kilda) for  few days in just over 2 weeks, along with sydney and perth. Do you have any recommendations for me to make the most of your fair city in the 3 days I have there (1st time in Oz! slightly excited!!!!! ) '<img'>

In fact, does anyone have any recommendtions for 'things to do' in the above cities - and can anyone refute all the horror stories they keep telling me at work about all the deadly creatures that re apparently going to eat me when I get there!!!! ':0'
