Come to Tatton this July and see....
'The Mellor Surprise Open Garden'

Flower Show BrochureVisitors to last July's Mellor Open Gardens 2000 may be interested to hear about this latest independent project in aid of Imperial Cancer Research Fund. Inspired by last summer's event in Mellor, a small garden has been specially designed and is being exhibited at The RHS Flower Show at Tatton Park.

Set within a typical drystone wall and following the main contours of the area, it represents the character, topography and features of Mellor and is called 'The Mellor Surprise Open Garden'.

The project is being run by three enthusiastic amateurs with the aim of raising a large sum of money for Imperial Cancer Research Fund and, yes, we do have to construct it ourselves (in 8 days!).

There will also be an Imperial Cancer Research Fund stand in the Heritage Marquee featuring a treasure hunt based on the plan of the garden, and miniature gardens made by children from Mellor Primary School.

The show will be opened on Wednesday morning by Princess Alexandra and we are delighted that she has chosen to visit The Mellor Surprise Open Garden in order to show her support for Imperial cancer Research Fund. Jeff turner of Granada Television's "Muck and Jeff" programme has also kindly agreed to visit the garden on Thursday 19th July at 11am.

The show runs from 18th to 22nd July and there is a ticket hotline on 0807 906 3811, or an on-line box office at www.rhs.org.uk

"Research is the most powerful tool we have against cancer, and our approach to research is straightforward. We recruit the finest research scientists from around the world. We provide them with the support and the resources they need to achieve results. Then we place them in stimulating environments where they can excel at developing new ways of understanding, preventing and treating cancer."
