Please be advised that Stockport MBC has granted the Marple Carnival Committee permission to close the following roads to all vehicular traffic in the centre of Marple from 11.00.m. to 3.00 p.m. on Saturday 18th June 2022, for the Marple Carnival Parade to take place:
Closed to all traffic - Oldknow Road (from 11.00 a.m to 3.00 p.m.)
Phased closure from 12.45 p.m.: Arkwright Road, Strines Road, Stockport Road, Hibbert Lane, Church Lane, Derby Road, Buxton Lane, Cross Lane, Station Road, Stockport Road and Memorial Park Way.
The parade will start from Oldknow Road, Arkwright Road and Strines Road at 1.00 p.m. and will proceed along Stockport Road, Hibbert Lane, Buxton Lane, Cross Lane and return to Oldknow Raod, Strines Road and Arkwright via Stockport Road and Memorial Park Way.
Adjoining roads to the parade route will also be closed as the parade progresses. All road closures will be on a phased basis to allow traffic to proceed along alternative roads.
The parade will be stopped at intervals to ensure that no major gaps develop in the procession line and will be stationary for periods of time along Buxton Lane and Cross Lane to allow live traffic to be halted before it can proceed to the next phase of its route.
Oldknow Road will be closed to traffic for the whole duration of the parade and a diversion for traffic from Marple Bridge and New Mills will be in place along Arkwright Road and Strines Road.
Stewards will be stationed at the junctions of adjoining roads to the parade route to assist emergency service vehicles and pedestrians and to halt on coming and merging traffic as the parade approaches. PLEASE STOP AND WAIT PATIENTLY if advised to do so.
Temporary NO WAITING restrictions will also be in operation along Oldknow Road, Arkwright Road, Strines Road and Stockport Road on the day.
