The Ride of Remembrance on Sunday was a great success!

Well done to Kevin Murray for organising this brilliant event - a great way to launch this year's Poppy Appeal in its Centenary year - it can't have been easy!

Arthur was there with his camera to create a record for anyone who wants to look back on it and his photos are now uploaded to the Virtual Tour:

Marple Ride of Remembrance to commemorate 100 years of the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal

Marple Poppy Appeal team are hoping this year’s Poppy Appeal will be back to some form of normality, especially as this year is the 100th anniversary of the Poppy Appeal and to commemorate this milestone they are launching the appeal with a special Ride of Remembrance involving 100 motorbikes riding through the town.

Read more on the main site: https://www.marple.website/marple-poppy-appeal/marple-poppy-appeal-2021.html

The ride will be on Sunday 24th October starting at 2pm and the route will be from St Paul’s Church in Compstall, into Marple Bridge, up Station Road to Stockport Road, turning left up to Hibbert Lane, then right up Hibbert Lane to Hawk Green, left past The Crown, left at Ridge Road, down Church Lane to Hibbert Lane roundabout, turning right to Stockport Road and then up to Marple Memorial Park, where the poppies carried by the riders will be transferred onto the Wall of Remembrance.

More riders are still needed at present, so if you would like to take part, or would like more information, please email poppyappeal@marple-uk.com. All riders will be presented with a special enamel pin badge (similar to above, as a small token of thanks for taking part in what will be quite a memorable event.

Sponsors and volunteers needed

We are looking for local businesses to sponsor the Wall of Remembrance by making a small donation to our appeal. All sponsors will be promoted through local social media sites as well as The Marple Website and The Marple Review and will receive copies of the A3 poster to display in your premises.

If you would like to be a sponsor or would like more information please contact the Poppy Appeal Organisers by email poppyappeal@marple-uk.com or tel 07954 388782.

We are also looking for volunteers who can spare an hour or so to help during the appeal. Please get in touch as described above if you would like to help.
Window Posters and Enamel Pins

The A3 window posters were very popular last year and so we are re-doing them for this year’s appeal, so you can show your support by having one displayed in your window. The posters will be available from our gazebo on the Hollins on Saturday 23rd and 30th October and Nov 6th on Market Street. They will also be available in all the local primary schools, on our stand in Asda from 1st November and various shops throughout the area. (Currently Stationery Supplies, Marple Health, Marple Bridge Stores and Compstall Post Office – others may well be added – please contact the organisers if you would like your business involved).

Apart from the traditional paper poppies, we will also have a selection of enamel pins including sport favourites like Golf and Rugby as well as the Manchester Bee pin. These are in very short supply so please visit our Gazebo or stand if you would like one.

The people of Marple have always been fantastic supporters of the Poppy Appeal and we sincerely hope we can depend on your continued support yet again even in these difficult times.

Thank you
Poppy Appeal Organising Team
