We need to be very careful here and differentiate between teenagers being annoying and people committing crimes.

I regularly walk through both Brabyns and the memorial park in the evenings. As a 50 something male, I often get annoyed at crowds of rowdy teenagers, but recognise that socialising, occasionally being a bit stupid, is all about growing up and learning your place in the world.

If people are being accosted, that's bad and needs to be dealt with, which is why we should still have local police who can deal with things in a timely manner, but lets not get carried away and stigmatise everyone who's a bit difference to us and may get a bit too raucous at times.

No go areas they are not.

Please don't get me started on the litter though  >:(
Short of police officers could not the increase in small pubs and burger bars be part of of the problem  as i said months ago and i was shot down by someone who said would you rather see the shops empty rather than in use if this is part of the problem yes i would rather see the shops were the bars are opening Empty . i wait for the flack .

It is on social media

Like a very large number of people, I don't use social media. Are there any reliable sources?

It is on social media

It certainly is, and a few of the posts on Facebook are almost as unpleasant as the behaviour they are describing - nasty snobbish stuff, demonising 'chavs' and people who live in council houses etc etc.

Main areas that I'm aware of, Memorial Park, the town centre and Brabyns Park..... Times, varies too but afternoons and evenings mostly. They appear to be targeting anyone and everyone who crosses their path.

Am I the only person who is surprised to see Brabyns Park listed there?  My own experience may not be typical, but I walk our dog virtually every afternoon in Brabyns, and occasionally in the evenings too.  There are plenty of people around - families, groups of teenagers - picnicking and playing in the river, especially in the recent heatwave.   But I have never once seen anything untoward.  The worst I've witnessed is kids dropping litter.......  ::).   So I'd be sorry if people started to believe that Brabyns has become a no-go area.  The danger then is that it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy: people start to believe that an area is not safe, so they stop going there, so anyone out to cause trouble or misbehave in some way is more likely to get away with it.  So even fewer people go there.

Admin refers in another post to an incident in Brabyns in which a woman was 'accosted' in her car yesterday.  I had not heard about that (admin can you tell us any more?), and I'm not suggesting that it should not be taken seriously.   But one isolated incident doesn't make Brabyns a 'no-go area'.

this is news to me (as i simply do not go into Marple centre or park much), so little more detail please so i can avoid trouble.
Times of day to avoid ? What to the thugs look like (young teenagers, old, early twenties or ?, male/female). Are they mobile (Cars/bikes or on foot).
Who are they targeting or is it random ?
Apologies for the questions, but when you see just words like no-go areas, serious assaults and lone woman, it raises concerns when its new to me and maybe a few others on this forum ( I dont do social media, i assume its on there).
It is on social media and it is most of the things you have guessed at. Youths a range of ages, mostly or all male, on foot, riding scooters, motorbikes and driving cars too. Main areas that I'm aware of, Memorial Park, the town centre and Brabyns Park but there have also been incidents on the roads. Times, varies too but afternoons and evenings mostly. They appear to be targeting anyone and everyone who crosses their path.

More trouble in Brabyns Park yesterday, when a lone woman was accosted in her car.

Please do sign and share this petition and write to @Steve Gribbon and @William Wragg MP about your experiences or concerns.

Antisocial Behaviour in Marple Memorial Park and Marple Town Centre

You may be aware of a significant increase in antisocial behaviour in and around Marple Memorial Park and Marple Town Centre in recent months.

The problem is growing and includes a number of assaults and very serious abuse.

As you know, Friends of Marple Memorial Park spend many hours maintaining and improving our wonderful park in the heart of our town centre but it is becoming a no-go area for our community due to take-over by these thugs. Please sign @Steve Gribbon's petition to tell GMP Marple & Hazel Grove and Stockport Council they must do whatever it takes to claim our park back!

Please also write to your MP @William Wragg MP as Friends of Marple Memorial Park have done yesterday.
