One of our readers has asked if we can put other news at the top so those not interested in Covid can read other things and not have to scroll through. Here’s a try for now. Below are items on Road Works, Jubilee, Baton Relay, Energy Rebate, Ukraine refugees and Covid

Road Works  None scheduled in the local area!

Jubilee
There is a “Secret Stockport Street Party” planned on Underbanks on Saturday 4th June, with food and drink and live music. This doesn’t clash with local events; the Market Street Party on 3rd and the Marple Bridge/Compstall event on Compstall Cricket Club ground on the same day

Commonwealth Games
The Commonwealth Games baton relay route has now been published on

Energy Rebates
These are now being paid by the Council; £150 with a council top up for many of £15. Initially those on direct debit will be paid automatically, and those who pay council tax by other means will be contacted to advise how to get the payment.

Ukraine
So far 53 households comprising 123 Ukrainian nationals have arrived in the borough, including some in Marple.

COVID 19

Many won’t be aware that on 17th May the Government further relaxed the official restrictions (step 3 in the Roadmap) with particular easing on large public events. Details are on the Government web site. As at 21st May, the rate of infection in the Borough of Stockport had fallen significantly to 24.9 per 100,000 and 10.4 new cases per day. On registered deaths in Stockport, using the measure “covid on the death certificate” the total of the previous 6 weeks is at 28, which is a little higher than previous weeks. Hospitalisation last week was slightly up at 22.

COVID 19

As at 8th May, the rate of infection in the Borough of Stockport had fallen significantly to 98.5 per 100,000 and around 41 people per day. As stated before these are likely to be an underestimate but the trend is reliable. ONS estimate that around 2.7% (last reported on 2nd May at 7%) of the population in the North West are currently covid positive.

On registered deaths in Stockport, using the measure “covid on the death certificate” the total of the previous 6 weeks is at 25, which is higher than previous weeks (at 29th April). There is a lag of something like 11 days due to the delay in actual registration paperwork. Hospitalisation last week has fallen from 20 to 16 (big fall from the 51 of a couple of weeks ago).

Marple and Hawk Green: 4 down from 6
Marple and Rose Hill:   9 down from 10
High Lane:   5 down from 8
Romiley and Compstall: 3 down from 10

Road Works
The current works on Windlehurst will continue to 20th May.
There are road works this week on:
-Marple Road, Offerton near junction with Bean Leach Road (15th May)
-Higher Bents Lane, Bredbury at junction with Redhouse Lane/Lower Bents Lane/Vernon Road (14th-15th May) with lights from 8.00am to 3.30pm
-Hyde Road Woodley (14th May -15th May) from 7.00pm to 5.00am (note night time lights)

Commonwealth Games
Advance warning: for the Games in Birmingham, the Queen’s Baton relay will pass through Stockport around 10.00am on Sunday 17th July

COVID 19

The rate of infection in the Borough of Stockport has increased again from 231.7 per 100,000 last week to 454.5 this week and around 141 people per day. As stated before these are likely to be an underestimate but the trend is reliable. ONS estimate that around 7% of the population in the North West are currently covid positive.

On registered deaths in Stockport, using the measure “covid on the death certificate” the total of the previous 6 weeks is still at 14 where it’s been for 3 weeks. There is a lag of something like 11 days due to the delay in actual registration paperwork. Hospitalisation last week has fallen from 89 to 51. (as at 24th April)
Local case numbers will not be updated over the holiday weekend and I will post the new ones at another time

Road Works
The electricity North West works on Station Road at the junction with Manor Hill Road (with a road closure at the junction) will end on 4th May.
There are road works this week on Compstall Road in Romiley, Windlehurst in High Lane (between the junctions with Ridge Crescent and Windlehurst Old Road) and Glossop Road (on 4th May between the junctions with Sandhill Lane and Benches Lane

Thanks and sorry not to reply sooner. It is the number admitted to hospital due to Covid. Not all will be in intensive care and there may be none - I don't have those figures sorry.

Update on the pandemic and other news

COVID 19
As mentioned recently, I am cutting back on these updates, partly because the data is less reliable but because we seem to be emerging from what we hope is the worst of the recent infections. It is still very much with us though.

Over the last two weeks the rate of infection has moved from 460.8 to 356.5 to 231.7 per 100,000 (figures on 7, 14, 22 April). As stated before these are an underestimate, but the trend is apparent. ONS estimate that around 5% to 7% of the population are currently covid positive.

On registered deaths in Stockport, using the measure “covid on the death certificate” the total of the previous 6 weeks has moved from 16 (7th April) to 14 (14th April) and is still at 14 (22nd April). There is a lag of something like 11 days due to the delay in actual registration paperwork. Hospitalisation last week was the same as the previous week at 89.

Thanks for providing all this info. One quick question. Is the hospitalisation figure the number of patients who tested positive for COVID, or the number admitted due to COVID, or the number in intensive care? 

I do agree that the number of cases figures will become less meaningful with free test kits ending. I hope you will still be able to provide some info in future updates though.

The rate of infection in Stockport Borough has dropped back considerably to 460.8 (756.2) per 100,000, and remains below the national average of 636.3 (873.9). New cases per day have also dropped to 193.1 (285.6). The national rate currently is at 47,621 (75,364). Stockport NHS hospitalisations in the week to 3rd April were up again at 83 (68).

On registered deaths in Stockport, using the measure “covid on the death certificate” there have been 14 (16) in the last six weeks. There is a lag of something like 11 days due to the delay in actual registration paperwork.

The rate of infection in Stockport Borough has stayed around the same at 756.2 (765.4) per 100,000, which is the highest in Greater Manchester but remains below the national average of 873.9 (877. 8 ). 88% of the Stockport cases are first infections.  New cases per day have also stayed around the same at 285.6 (299). The national rate currently is at 75,364 (85,606). Stockport NHS hospitalisations in the week to 27th March were up again at 68 (61).

There are 9 pop up vaccination clinics being set up during the Easter school holidays. Nearest is in Underhill Centre in Romiley.

There is some concern about the accuracy of this data going forward as testing kits are no longer free and it is felt people will test less regularly as a result, hence figures may become an underestimate.

The rate of infection in Stockport Borough has risen significantly again to 765.4 (647.9) per 100,000, which remains below the national average of 877.8 (724.3). New cases per day have risen to 299 (271.6). The national rate currently is at 85,606 (78,885). Stockport NHS hospitalisations in the week to 20th March were up again at 61 (49).

On registered deaths in Stockport, using the measure “covid on the death certificate” there have been 25 (29) in the last six weeks. There is a lag of something like 11 days due to the delay in actual registration paperwork.

A new phase of vaccination has started this week and certain people will be invited for a spring (second) booster. This is for those most vulnerable and includes those over 75, those immunosuppressed and older care home residents. Eligible adults will be contacted by the NHS

The rate of infection in Stockport Borough has risen significantly again to 647.9 (388.2) per 100,000, which remains below the national average of 724.3 (458.7). New cases per day have also risen sharply to 271.6 (162.7). The national rate currently is at 78,885 (57,117). Stockport NHS hospitalisations in the week to 13th March were almost double at 49 (25).

On registered deaths in Stockport, using the measure “covid on the death certificate” there have been 29 (34) in the last six weeks. There is a lag of something like 11 days due to the delay in actual registration paperwork.

You should still isolate  for 5 days after a positive test, and beyond until you have had two successive negative tests. Sadly, deaths continue, so the virus has not gone away. Lateral flow tests are still free for now until 1st April.

As restrictions are lifted and vaccinations are now increasing slowly, I wonder if it is time to reduce this data soon. I feel that infection rates are still valuable to people but the vaccination rates add little now – although vaccination is still encouraged and being made available readily.

Thank you for sharing these @Malcolm Allan I'm inclined to agree that the vaccine info is of less interest than the infection rates and it has been good to see those steadily falling.

Please do continue with the infection rates for the immediate future.

The rate of infection in Stockport Borough has fallen again to 266.9 (314.2) per 100,000, which is below the national average of 450.6 (592.50). New cases per day have also fallen to 112 (132). The national rate currently is at 31,933 (51,899). Stockport NHS hospitalisations in the week to 21st February were down at 40 (50).
On vaccinations in Stockport Borough, 236, 196 (235,994) have had a first vaccination which is 87.3% (87.3%) of the 18+ population. 223,931 (223,471) have had a second dose which is 84.9% (84.9%) of the 18+population. 179,805 (179,110) have received a booster which is 70.7% (70.5%) of the 18+ population.
