A huge thank you to Doctors, Nurses and District Nurses for their care of Ron Townley

Ron's wife Audrey has asked me to say a very big thank you to the NHS Doctors and Nurses who helped care for Ron during his final days. Especially the District Nurses, who visited regularly at all hours and were so cheerful and supportive to both Ron and Audrey at this very difficult time. She is so very grateful, thank you!

Ron's Funeral is Friday 11th December

It is not possible for anyone except close family and friends to attend the Funeral but the Cortège will pass through Marple Memorial Park at 1pm, giving all the Marple folk who knew Ron a chance to say a proper goodbye while socially distancing in the park.

Ronald Townley 2.9.1931-17.11.2020 (89 years young).

A message from the family.....

Sadly Ronald passed away peacefully at home on 17.11.2020 after a short illness.

Ronald played the Last Post on the bugle at Stockport Remembrance Day Service for approximately 40 years with a break for his National Service 1950-52.

He did 16 years in the Cheshire Yeomanry Territorial Army and a further 16 years as Secretary for the Cheshire Yeomanry Old Comrades Association.

He played Base Drum for Marple Band during the 1970's and took over the organisation of the Marple and District Area Poppy Appeal for around 12 years until recently handing over to Kevin Murray and his team.

He will be sadly missed by his wife Audrey, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Mark W: My wife and I knew Ron quite well from the Poppy Appeal and Remembrance Services he was involved in for so many years. He was a lovely man and he and Audrey worked really hard for the appeal well into his 80s. He's pictured above in Asda on the Poppy Stall in 2017 with Kevin Murray and Mike Openshaw, who began supporting him in that year.

The funeral arrangements will be published here when details are available.
