Stockport Council has advised this afternoon that blockages to the drains have been cleared and both park toilets will be open to the public from tomorrow.

UPDATE:

I've been to the park this morning and the ladies IS open. I have been in touch with the council to find out why the gents is still closed and this is the reply I've received:

"There was an issue with the drains located in the shrub bed last year (around August) although this was resolved and the gents toilets were open before March lockdown. Our colleagues at TLC have confirmed that there is a further blockage in the gents toilets which was reported yesterday. This has now been escalated and we will investigate and arrange to have this cleared as a priority."

Received the following answer to the public question on Memorial Park Toilets on Friday:

I've been away for a long weekend, did anyone notice if the toilets were open yesterday?

Reopening of Memorial Park Toilets has to be consider by Council's Cabinet!

No answers to public questions posed to Marple Area Committee last week about reopening the park toilets yet but we have heard that reopening of public toilets has to be considered by Stockport Council's Cabinet Committee, so we can expect it to take quite some time. All the more reason to sign and share our ePetition on the council's web site please.

Some people have told us that they've had technical difficulties when trying to sign the ePetition on the council site. If you have trouble please report it to our local councillors. The system should allow all registered Stockport residents to sign.

Local Councillors want Memorial Park Toilets opening too!

At last night's Marple Area Committee Meeting local councillors responded to Friends of the Park's public questions by agreeing to urge the council to reopen the park toilets urgently and to recommence emptying bins over the weekends. Public Question and ePetition on plans for reopening Memorial Park toilets

Following concerns about the toilets in Marple Memorial Park still being closed highlighted by members of the public directly and via social media, the Friends of Marple Memorial Park have submitted a public question to Marple Area Committee tomorrow night and started an ePetition on the Council's own web site.

The question:

We understand why the toilets in Marple Memorial Park have been closed during the Covid19 pandemic but we are concerned that the council will use this as an excuse to never reopen them again. We have witnessed parents taking their young children to urinate in the bushes and on the grass outside the busy play area and we sympathise with this - there are no other options for them at the moment. We believe it is crucial that there is a plan for getting them open again. What are the council's plans for reopening the park toilets and what is the timescale for this?

The ePetition:

Please sign and share the ePetition if you agree that a plan needs to be put in place to get the toilets reopened as soon as possible.
