Hi all - Carole said it would be helpful to have an update of what the Marple Mutual Aid group is doing so I have done a quick summary below.
Marple Mutual Aid GroupThe Marple Mutual Aid group was formed at the beginning of the COVID19 crisis, as people across the community came together to support each other. It's not an organisation or a ‘service’- just neighbours supporting each other through this time, particularly people who are self-isolating.
An amazing number of people across our area have said they would like to help out neighbours who are self-isolating (and we know lots more are doing it informally anyway on their streets). They can pick up shopping and medication, walk dogs, or even just have a chat over the phone to help with the cabin fever we’re all experiencing.
You can request help:By phone: 0161 5312230 (we have people answering the phones 9-5 Monday - Saturday)
By email: CVMarple@gmail.com
If it is something the group can help with we take the details we need, and then pass these to a volunteer who has said they are available.
We are giving volunteers the latest guidance on how to prevent virus transmission, and we have done our best to check people are who they say they are. We won’t pass on any more personal details than the volunteer needs. No volunteer will ask for, or handle money. We have a way that volunteers can pay for shopping, and claim it back, and people self-isolating can reimburse us.
We’re currently doing around 100 deliveries a week, and starting to match people as ‘buddies’ where they might prefer someone to check in with regularly, rather than having to call us each time they need something. Some of the people who want to help are furloughed from work at the moment and have very particular skills and expertise they are happy to offer - so if you're self-isolating and there’s something you need it is worth asking.
We’re connecting to other local services that are there to support people, such as the Stockport Corona Virus Helpline, the Prevention Alliance, and the work of the churches, and we will connect into the NHS volunteers when that system is fully set up. This means those organisations can send people our way, and we know where to go if people need more than we can offer.
