I think they have a container for fridges etc as they have to be emptied of coolant and they are a right mixture of materials.
Thank you, Marks. I'd not thought of that. I'll wait until they can deal with it.

Pandemic News  items

1.Rose Hill Tip
Some of you will have seen the tip is re-opening tomorrow (Saturday 30th). Bredbury will also be extending its hours from weekends only, to 7 days. Details are on the Council web site but not under “recycling Centres”! The best place to find this is under “news”. Details are:

Rose Hill: open 9am to 6pm on Saturday 30th May then from Sunday 8am to 6pm every day.

Bredbury: open every day 8am to 6pm

You can take:
  • General waste (including small bulky items)
  • Cardboard
  • Garden waste (excluding soil)
  • Wood and timber
  • Scrap metal
  • Rubble
Recycling Centre Rules are
  • Only 1 person allowed out of the vehicle
  • Keep 2 metres apart at all times.
  • Cars and small vans only - No transit type vans and vehicles with trailers
  • No pedestrian access
  • Staff will not be able to help unload your vehicle
  • Please take proof of address with you such as your council tax bill, gas or electric bill to show you live in one of the 9 councils in Greater Manchester. You can show your bill on your mobile phone.
  • Trade waste is not allowed.
  • Please note a traffic management system by number plate will be in place. This is based on odd and even number plates and works on a rota system by day.
On that last point, personally I think it’s confusing how they’ve done it so please look at the web page. As a quick guide, Saturday is even, Sunday is odd numbers.

2. Testing
There is a section on the Stockport Council web site about getting tested for the virus. If you’re eligible for a test you should mail testing@stockport.gov.uk after which you will be sent a request form for completion, which will lead to you being given a booking slot. Full details are on https://www.stockport.gov.uk/coronavirus-getting-tested
Would a dead 'fridge/freezer count as 'scrap metal'? And does the Marple "tip" have a collection scheme (obviously payable by the customer)?

Marple's Mutual Aid Group, an amazing success story!

Like most people in Marple, we received a Marple Mutual Aid Group leaflet through our door in March and we saw the article on the cover of the Marple Review that was distributed just before lock-down. Via social media I was aware of the group's aim to find a way for local people to help each other though the Covid19 crisis and was pleased to help share their message in this thread.

Learn more about the incredible local volunteers who drove this initiative to success: https://www.marple.website/community-projects/marple-mutual-aid-group.html

I'd also like to thank Cllr @Malcolm Allan for his contributions here too!

If your needs are spiritual during the Covid19 Crisis, St. Thomas' Church, Mellor may be able to help:

Today they have updated their entry in the Marple Website Community Directory to share links to their daily prayers being broadcast twice a day on their YouTube Channel. They also have a daily podcast from members of their congregation and a monthly magazine called OUTLOOK. Visit their entry in the Community Directory for more details:

They are restricting numbers of shoppers to 2 and have a strong advisory for people aged 70 and over to stay away (as per national guidelines).

The Health Food shop was open this afternoon - their range of products includes many standard items. They had no queue - unlike Asda where the queue went into the park. Worth checking - even though not included in the list of Very Useful Local Shops. You can't go in the shop - have to order through the doorway.

Thank you for that @Cyberman. They were on the very original list but I thought they had closed so were taken off, I will add them back on.

UPDATE: Marple Post Office did reopen, see later posts for latest details.

Hi all - Carole said it would be helpful to have an update of what the Marple Mutual Aid group is doing so I have done a quick summary below.

Marple Mutual Aid Group

The Marple Mutual Aid group was formed at the beginning of the COVID19 crisis, as people across the community came together to support each other. It's not an organisation or a ‘service’-  just neighbours supporting each other through this time, particularly people who are self-isolating.

An amazing number of people across our area have said they would like to help out neighbours who are self-isolating (and we know lots more are doing it informally anyway on their streets). They can pick up shopping and medication, walk dogs, or even just have a chat over the phone to help with the cabin fever we’re all experiencing.

You can request help:

By phone: 0161 5312230 (we have people answering the phones 9-5 Monday - Saturday)

By email: CVMarple@gmail.com

If it is something the group can help with we take the details we need, and then pass these to a volunteer who has said they are available.

We are giving volunteers the latest guidance on how to prevent virus transmission, and we have done our best to check people are who they say they are. We won’t pass on any more personal details than the volunteer needs. No volunteer will ask for, or handle money. We have a way that volunteers can pay for shopping, and claim it back, and people self-isolating can reimburse us.

We’re currently doing around 100 deliveries a week, and starting to match people as ‘buddies’ where they might prefer someone to check in with regularly, rather than having to call us each time they need something. Some of the people who want to help are furloughed from work at the moment and have very particular skills and expertise they are happy to offer - so if you're self-isolating and there’s something you need it is worth asking.

We’re connecting to other local services that are there to support people, such as the Stockport Corona Virus Helpline, the Prevention Alliance, and the work of the churches, and we will connect into the NHS volunteers when that system is fully set up. This means those organisations can send people our way, and we know where to go if people need more than we can offer.

You can keep updated about what’s happening through our Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/groups/345647879687508/
