If I recall correctly a farmer can allow camping for up to 30 days per year in a field without needing planning approval etc.

If they've got the landowners permission, then presumably yes for at least some time.  Although equally that may depend on what's going on between the camper and the landowner as most campsites need licenses and planning permission.

And if the person staying there don't have permission from the landowner, then they probably don't care about laws and rules.

Hi there

When walking along Marple ridge, close to the Methodist church and down towards the canal, we came across a tent in the field.  It looked quite settled there, is it ok to camp in the fields?

Many thanks
