The point is that the Council; no matter who runs it, is not going to do a good job. It is too remote and includes only six members from Marple. It also tries to interfere in too many areas where local people are much better placed to do the job.

Too remote?  Stockport town hall is four miles away.  Disley is run from Macclesfield.  And is run by a council with a far bigger area of operation.

I really struggle to see how Stockport can be too remote.

As for localness, isn't that exactly what the Marple Area Committee is for?  What's the alternative?  A tiny council covering just Marple that has next to no money to do anything and no economies of scale?

Well if you think you could do better, stand for election.

No point in just sniping from the sidelines, moaning and complaining.

Do something about it.

I'm merly expresisng an opinion. I'm old enough and wise enough to know it'll not change with or without my intervention and anyhow; I can't afford to, the salary wouldn't cover my exorbitant council tax bill.

I'll second that. It seems the more fingers they have in more pies the easier to justify their existence but the more they can mess up and then blame cuts because they don't have enough money.

Indeed. I don't think people would object to paying more if they thought the Council was actually capable of using the money well. However, like the majority of people, I don't trust the council to do so and wouldn't, regardless of who was in charge. Furthermore, I think the council tries to get involved in many areas which we could well do without and where we the council tax payers are much better at using our money for the benefit of the community than any council.

If local councils could demonstrate a modicum of sensibility, fiscal discipline and common sense I could perhaps also agree. Sadly, in my opinion they cannot. Proverbial p***-ups in breweries springs to mind so I cannot therefore agree with Wheels, however big his own pcokets appear to be.

Amazon.  I accept that some can't pay more but I was ask my view and gave my responses. I feel we pay very little for the services we get.
Just my opinion .

I find myself in the unusual position of agreeing with @wheels! Local council tax raising should not be dictated to by central government. If local residents don't like it, they can vote.

Honest answer Jimblob I think restrictions on Lcoal Authority Council  Tax increases should be fully removed and that we should all pay substantially more.

I personally think we already pay way too much and get very little for it other than a dictatorial but blatantly inept local council who act in their own interests and for self preservation rather than the interests of the folks who pay their wages

Well in that case it could be a loading restriction at certain times of the day like elsewhere in stockport.

As for anyone parking up for their pasty, are they entitled to park on yellow lines?
Or is this the same ones that take up a disabled space and go I’ll only be 5 mins meanwhile taking up a valuable space that someone needs it.
let the shops close that would solve it for some then the Marple moaners would be out .
