There were sand bags placed next to the shops on Town Street in Marple Bridge last night. If the Goyt reaches the level of Town Street there'd be a far bigger issue than could be dealt with by a few sand bags.

BBC Radio 5 states '“They have got structural engineers trying to empty the reservoir but there is warning that the dam could go at any time.
"And if it does, there is a huge amount of water in Toddbrook Reservoir - it would flow down, it would swamp the town centre, the primary school. The damage to buildings potentially is absolutely enormous.”
Jill said she had spoken to a county councillor who told her 85% of people so far had been evacuated out of the cordoned off area.

It goes without stating that the Goyt is at high levels due to the heavy rainfall over the last couple of days and that the dangerous amount of water flowing down the river will be exacerbated by release of a huge amount water from the dam into the already swollen river does not bode well for Strines, Marple Bridge, Marple Dale or Chadkirk.

At 1655 BBC North west states 'Environment Agency issues a severe "danger to life" flood warning for Whaley Bridge after serious damage to the dam at Toddbrooke Reservoir. It says evacuation plans are underway for the area. It's concerned water from the reservoir could cause the River Goyt to rise rapidly.'
