For all your information on the Marple Neighbourhood Plan needs:

You can have your say on the plan. It needs 50% of people to vote in favour of it in order for Stockport Council to adopt it.
The website isn't especially clear, but I'm guessing that as they only say it will "influence" planning decisions, that means that it's not legally binding and set in stone?
Currently the Neighbourhood Plan is out for consultation with the community. It has been produced by local people who care enough to put in the effort.
Which is a nice way of saying the local busybodies who think they know what's best for everyone else.
That said, they have a photo of the team on the site, and it looks like the courted controversy by going for the youth vote - at least two of them are definitely under 75!!!!
Actually it's a terrible option.
It's far from the town centre.
Except that other than the Rec, there's nowhere in the town centre to build a modern centre.
It's far away from most of Marple's population (although the people of Offerton would benefit)
Quite right, Stockport council shouldn't be letting the oiks of Offerton use "Marple's" leisure centre. I mean, they should use their own. Oh wait.....
It's £7m for the land alone.
In my eyes this is the only real problem.
It's not easy to get to by bus.
Because bus routes can never be altered?
It's on a road that's already pretty congested, especially at peak hours.
It would require some joined up thinking from the various SMBC departments (yeah, I know, but still, it "could" happen), but a major investment such as a new leisure centre should be the catalyst for sorting out that ****show.
It's virtually next door (well 1 mile away) from Romiley pool.
Have you used Romiley recently? It's bigger/nicer than Marple, but that's not saying much, especially when you compare it to Hazel Grove. A new, large leisure centre, catering to the needs of Marple, Romiley and Offerton would be the best solution for everyone in the long term.
Even if you could solve the other factors, there's no point in the council having two leisure facilities so close to each other.
No, you'd close Romiley once the new one is open.
It might make sense if you closed both Romiley and Marple and merged them on a single, bigger site. But I think we can all agree that that would go down like a lead balloon.
Yes, because of the supposed "rivalry" between Marple and Romiley. But it would actually be the grown up decision to make - which virtually guarantees it'll never happen.
