Well, Ridge Danyers (or Cheadle+Marple) 6th form college won't make many friends in the area if they sell out to Tesco.

Sincerely hope that Tesco don't succeed in getting the plot.  Would have dire consequences for Marple town centre.

Friends Of The Earth recently launched this site http://www.tescopoly.org showing the devastation that Tesco cause to local communities / businesses.

It's hard to imagine them getting planning consent in that location.  But there again, if what people say about that monster Tescos in Stockport is true, they don't bother about trivial things like compliance with planning permission!      '<img'>

.......because Tesco's is taking over the world (or trying to) as Eric correctly points out.  But what can you do?  I've been boycotting Tescos for over a year and it hasn't made any difference - it's still there...............  '<img'>

Why not use the Tesco's in Whaley Bridge?

It's a nicer to drive to get to it ( you don't have to battle to stockport or Bredbury) and it has just as good a choice as anywhere else!

Although the Co-op is a bit chaotic, it has my vote on several counts:

Unless doing a big shop can go without car (therefore easier on environment - and avoid the stroppy drivers in the car park! ':p' );
Good stock of Fair Trade products (even wine!'<img'> );
Good labelling policy (e.g. whether items are GM, or contain free range eggs etc);
Generally a more ethical/environmentally friendly retailer than the others;
Smaller than the bigger supermarkets, some of which are trying to take over the world !!! ':O'

Also ... it's local and if we don't use it we lose it! '<img'>

Dave, the quality of the food may be fine, but if not kept in safe, hygenic conditions, well it definately bothers me.

I dont shop at Morrisons as Ive had fresh fish gone off, the veg lasts only a couple of days before it turns.

I find Asda pretty good, but cant stand the women screaming at their kids at the stockport branch, the one at Hyde is pretty good.

I like tescos at glossop, the store is easy to find your way round, but find Asda better value for money.

Sainsburys, I like their own branded food, but my shopping bill is significantly more expensive.

Although I live in Marple, I dont often use the co op because quiet often it is chaos!! (But I do find the staff helpfull) and I have often found myself dicing with death in the car park!!

The general appearance and cleanliness is important to me, because if a store is not clean on the parts that the shopper can see, oh dear, whats it going to be like in the parts you cant.

Who cares about these aspects?    Surely what matters is the quality of the food and the value for money?   ':p'

If you use one on the list, which do you consider best for general Cleanliness,appearance,availability of stock, ease of movement, efficiency of staff, customer service, car parking(if used) and good management.
