The 21 Open Gardens in Marple are grouped into four zones.

Each zone has its own page on the Marple Website with photos and descriptions of the gardens plus details of nearby refreshments and other useful advice.

Here's the Rose Hill Zone: https://www.marple.website/open-gardens-in-marple/rose-hill-zone.html

The plant sale on Saturday at the Railway Pub was a great success with sales of almost £900!

We're looking forward to seeing pots and hanging baskets springing up all over Marple in Cancer Research UK colours and Open Gardens in Marple Flags just like this one that we'll be raffling at Marple Carnival on Saturday 16 June.

Plants will be on sale at Marple Carnival and at the Cancer Research UK Shop on Market Street.

Please send photos of your own displays of Flower Power in Marple!

Open Gardens in Marple Flags have arrived just in time for you to buy some with your plants at tomorrow's sale!

They can enhance your pots, tubs and hanging baskets and tell everyone about Flower Power in #Marple!

Plant Sale: to help the community get involved in Open Gardens in Marple!

Saturday 9 June in the Railway Pub Car Park 12noon to 3pm

To help with people get involved with Open Gardens in Marple, organisers will be holding a PLANT SALE in aid of Cancer Research UK, selling a variety of professionally-grown bedding plants in the charity colours. This is on Saturday 9th June between 12noon and 3pm in The Railway car park at Rose Hill. We will also be at Marple Carnival and selling plants at Marple's Cancer Research UK Shop in the weeks leading up to the event.

How you can get involved ...

If you live in Marple, care about cancer and love flowers, you can be part of Marple’s support for Cancer Research UK with flower power in your front window or front garden! This simply involves displaying a pot, tub or hanging basket planted with flowers in any combination of the charity’s distinctive colours - bright pink, dark blue, light blue, purple and white.

Your community in Marple is caring about cancer with flower power – do join us.

Another way to get your plants to support Open Gardens in Marple is to buy them from the Mellor Country House Plant Sale.

This way you will be supporting the event and this great local charity:

It's wonderful to see Marple starting to bloom at last with crocuses in the park. We had a great meeting last week with the gardeners who are opening their Gardens in Marple in July and everyone is looking forward to the event in just 18 weeks!  There's still time to sign up to open your garden or to volunteer to get involved in other ways.

The weather will be better on 7 & 8 July, we promise!

At last night's Marple Area Committee Open Gardens in Marple was awarded £700 from the committee's Flexibility Funding towards the costs of putting on the event.

Well done to chair of the group Mary Hoult for inspiring the committee to give £200 more than asked for and thank you to Marple's Councillors for supporting what looks like being a brilliant summer event. Don't forget there is still time to get involved, either by opening your Marple garden too, or volunteering to help over the weekend of 7th and 8th July.

The key messages from Open Gardens in Marple for January and February are:

SAVE THE DATES 7th and 8th JULY for Open Gardens in Marple!

Make sure you schedule your summer holidays so not to miss this fantastic new event.

There is still time to sign up to OPEN YOUR GARDEN!

We currently have 17 Marple gardens signed up and are hoping for more. If you live in the Marple area and are interested in opening your garden to the public over the weekend of Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th July 2018, please get in touch via opengardensinmarple@marple-uk.com or call 0161 427 5712.

We need VOLUNTEERS too!

If you don't want to open your garden but would still like to get involved by helping others, please get in touch too. We will be holding a meeting for garden owners and volunteers in early March, so please provide your details before then and let us know if you'd like to help us raise funds for Cancer Research UK.

Guidance for people thinking of opening their garden:

These key points may help you to decide if this is for you but please get in touch if you have other questions:
  • If you're passionate about your garden and your friends and family tell you how lovely it is, then it's very likely other people will want to visit your garden too. Size doesn't matter!
  • Gardens can be opened on Saturday 7th July only, Sunday 8th July only or both days.
  • The boundary for the event is Marple as defined by the Marple Neighbourhood Plan. So if you live within the boundary shown on this map (below) your garden is eligible.
  • We would like to have clusters of gardens all over Marple, so if this is of interest to you please have a word with your neighbours too and think about opening your gardens together. This could make it a great social event for your own neighbourhood as well as being part of the wider whole.
