Brabyns Park Bonfire [8 November 2014]

This year's display was as good as all the others, thank you Scouts and Guides.   If you want to know when it is next year, look at the Stockport MBC planning portal at the end of August (2015) citing 'Brabyns Park Marple.'  This is an event for which planning permission is required from the Council and the application appears to be made in early August and a decision notified towards the end of August.

Could be wrong, but this has worked for the last three years.

Brabyns bonfire is fund raising for guides and scouts, it takes place on the 8th November at 7pm. fireworks are lit at 7.30.

As this topic rears its head every year its worth noting that the bonfire in Brabyns Park has always been on the nearest Saturday to the 5th either before or after, this should clear up the misunderstanding hopefully.

There was a really bad year a couple of years back which meant I haven't been back (it was overcrowded, muddy, the bonfire appeared to have a thousand mile exclusion zone around it and the fireworks appeared to be from a box of 'standard' fireworks and lasted about 15 minutes.. oh and instead of toffee apples we were blessed with a burger van).

From your comments I gather it's improved?  Might be worth trying again.

Of course, even the on the gate price is reasonable considering the quality of the show and the price that home fireworks would set you back instead

Perhaps to entice people to buy in advance. If they haven't bought in advance and it's bad weather on the night, some people may choose to stay at home.

This is the reason. The Scouts and Guides run it as a fundraiser (as well as a community service) and whilst they can make do if poor weather means that they only break even, they can't really afford to make an actual loss on the event.

Why such a price difference if you want to pay on the night?
Family of 4 £10 in advance yet £16 on the night.

Perhaps to entice people to buy in advance. If they haven't bought in advance and it's bad weather on the night, some people may choose to stay at home.

Yeah, that's fine. On reflection I imagine it's something they have to say just in case an incident does occur as a consequence of somebody bringing their own sparklers along. It covers their back I suppose. I can understand that, I think I overreacted initially

Sparklers are a very important part of bonfire / fireworks night. Kids can't help beaming with joy when holding one, spelling their name out and all that. If I want to entrust my child with a sparkler and trust myself to supervise him with it then I will bring a pack along, as my parents did for me.

If some bright spark (ho-ho) from the increasingly annoying health & safety brigade tells me to put them in the bin, I will shove a toffee apple in their gob and tell them to head over to the bonfire to brighten up!

All other info below is from previous years and is currently unconfirmed:

Bonfire starts: 7.00pm
Fireworks start: 7.30pm
 
Tickets £3.00 Adult, Child 5 to 15 years £1.50 available from Hollins of Marple or from Scout Leaders.

Usually it's cheaper to buy the tickets in advance and I think they will be £4 and £2.50 on the night but again, not confirmed.
