From a letter issued to residents on Station Road on 9 August:

Carriageway Resurfacing Station Road, Marple.

Stockport Council is undertaking a programme of carriageway works and is pleased to inform you that they will be resurfacing the carriageway on Station Road from approximately Arkwright Road to Hollins Lane. This work will be carried out by their alliance partner Lafarge/Tarmac Ltd.

The work will commence from Monday 19th August 2013 and will involve removing the existing carriageway surface and applying a new road surface. Work is expected to take up to 2 weeks to complete, weather permitting and will be carried out between 09.00hrs and 18.00hrs.

Unfortunately to carry out this work it will be necessary to restrict traffic movements along this stretch as highlighted above with a temporary prohibition of driving (road closure) for through traffic. This is to allow safe working operations to take place without the use of temporary traffic signals. During this time a signed diversion will be in operation via Stockport Road, Oldknow Road, Arkwright Road. Access to properties in the working zone will be maintained where possible but may be restricted for certain periods as the work progresses.

Information boards will be erected on site advising road users of the programmed work. SMBC has consulted with Bus service providers and they will make the appropriate arrangements to bus services that are affected. Although some traffic delays are inevitable this will be kept to a minimum by staff on site.
