Except this was not a successful bit, the bid failed and this is a hand out given to all such bids that could rope their local MP in.

£10,000 boost for Marple's shopping centre

Marple’s successful Portas Bid was led by Marple Vision Partnership on behalf of a consortium consisting of Marple Vision Partnership, Marple Business Forum, Marple Civic Society and Stockport Council.

The Town Team consists of representatives of supporting groups and organisations in Marple.

Why was the photo not taken outside local businesses not national chains.
Are they business forum members or do they participate in any of our marple events.
Think the answer is no, but the increase in footfall  from the various markets they get wont harm them will it!!

In pursuant of Bluezorro's point is there any reason why the manager of the Co-op is on the photo ?

For years most of what  the Co-op has contributed to Marple is inflated prices, narrow sell by dates, "sorry the delivery hasn't arrived yet", and surly staff.

Incidentally, I wasn't aware that the £10K was in any way connected to MBF - is it ?

Surly the bid was made on the bases of this is what the money will be spent on therefore there is no real debate it will be spent on whatever was identified in the bid document.

The £10k is a "consolation prize" if you will, the actual bid was for £100,000 but this was not successful. The £10k was awarded because Andrew Stunell was willing to sign a pledge of support. So, the group who have been awarded the money will have to decide how best to spend it (they may have been given some guidance by the Portas scheme) - maybe do a small part of what was in their £100k bid, or maybe something different that they believe will benefit the Town Centre.

That was helpful to put it into context thanks Mark

Good to see strong support for our Marple but then again we do have other groups that also look after our historic town.
It'll be interesting to see what happens from here onwards.

I'm sure other residents will have opinions on how the money could be spent, it'll be nice to hear the positive comments/suggestions.

Could any of this money help the Carnival?

The Carnival doesn't particularly need money, it needs volunteers to help with the organisation of the event.

I think it should not be spent on anything that could be vandalised otherwise it would be a waste!
