Our MP because he is already playing a role in this matter and a speedy response from our councillors because this is electorally the most sensitive issue in Marple and a proposition on which they chose to take a position before the proposition was even made.

I think oyu miss the point totally here by demanding that Councillors come out on your side before even a planing application has been lodged to consider you are in fact giving ASDA a perfect case in any appeal.

This demand for a public oath of loyality is handing victory to ASDA.

You talk as if the No campaign has lost. The development in the last week has in fairness shown the campaign is not battling an imaginary problem. The plans are clearly showing what we already know, it's close enough to the town to destroy the businesses there, far enough away to not compliment it (see Michael Taylor's blog Marple leaf).

Petitions are always difficult, if you have 10,000 signatures there are 14,000 you didn't get. SMbc will not be able to approve it, Asda will appeal & it will be out of SMBC's hands.

Will the increased car traffic mean 4 petrol stations be supported in business?

Will there be enough food purchases to support the current output & Asda?

Will anyone pay to park in Marple to shop?

The empty shops are already here.

What Marple needs is a shop that complements the centre in the centre or a remodelling to make the centre a great place to run a business.

You know the answers sugest what .

The answers suggest that an Asda will have a detrimental effect on existing businesses.

The loss of those businesses IMHO will have a detrimental effect on the town, employment & wealth

Our local councillor was only elected on around 2,000 votes so I think our show of support and signatures is remarkable.      ;D

No Simone you can not be further from the truth.  We have gained more signatures since Walmarts consultation and offers of help from the community.    It was my turn to man the action line this morning and I have received 8 telephone calls from 9am - 12m complaining that they were not aware of the consultation yesterday and wanted information about when the next meeting would take place.
There are lots of the community who log in just to gain information but are not members so then contact the MIA phone line for more details.
Being in MIA is hard work the phone calls can be no stop some days and a group of people share phone line duties
Now that plans are forthcoming the interest has increased because Edwards Way,  Cross Lane and surrounding areas are all now becoming a little more interested in traffic.   My own neighbours are now becoming more involved due to the 230 car movements per hour that Walmart have stated will be at peak times.  I struggle to get off my drive now and the school children from Marple Hall all Jay Walk in the middle of the road trying to cross.  There is soon to be a you tube video of a typical day of commuting traffic which will be posted once completed.   So sorry to disappoint those who doubt MIAs support but it every increasing as more and more people have looked at the plans and seen how traffic for example will effect there lives.  A lot of interest in MIA is also growing from areas that can see there roads / streets becoming rat runs

I don't know where you live Miss M (and I wouldn't be so intrusive to ask) and of course I accept what you say about struggling to get off your drive. It's not an easy job to get off mine. There is more traffic now and that's a fact . Asda will bring even more and that's a fact. Whatever our differing opinons about MIA, I also do not doubt that you work very hard neither do I doubt the sincerity of your own cause.

But sometimes your obvious passion overwhelms your obvious intelligence. Some time ago you presented a 6 thousand signature petition to the AC these signatures were gained through information that everybody now knows was exaggerated and this petition as far as Couincillors are concerned will now be considered useless by them.

Do you not feel that whatever happens now with this issue  that the outcome (whatever it is) is inevitable and that MIA has done all that it  can and is now spent as a campaign force. What more can you actually do that can have any influence on either SMBC, ASDA or CAMSFC ? Even for idealists there is a point of realisation when they know they have to put down the rifle and look for a compromise.

I would be interested in knowing if the increased traffic will be offset by the people that will no longer need to travel out of Marple to shop and the possible decrease in delivery trucks to the area. There are so many online deliveries in my area by Asda/Tesco etc. and I wonder if any of these will be reduced.

Well that's interesting enough M but it does not address Simone's point that a petition signed before plans were or are presented carries little weight and you will have to do it again directed directly at the actual lodged plans.

At 230 traffic movements an hour on Stockport Rd that does not seem to me a lot at just short of 4 cars a minute. Surely it is the concentration of traffic at certain times which is the problem and I can see that needs addressing.

Surely the 230 additional cars will not be at peak times when people are going to and from work or going to school, most people do a weekly shop at weekends or on a Friday night. I used to work in Stockport and every working day did the peak time runs, I wasn't bothered that I had to sit in slow moving traffic getting to and from work, it was and always will be an accepted thing with no alternative. If you cannot accept that living in Marple and having to work outside of Marple means traveling in slow moving traffic each day at peak times then move out of Marple!

If we have to do the petition again then so be it   The traffic is a nightmare and remember if Walmart are stating That there will be 230 cars an hour I think the true figure would be more !   You have not answered a question and that is where do you live ?

I'm fairly certain that any signatures gained before ASDA's plans were revealed last week will be viewed as completely worthless by the decision makers.

I wouldn't be surprised if some people start asking for their signatures back and I think that MIA should publicise the opportunity for people to do this.

Have to say I agree Dave.

Your petition should start now that there's actual information available.

You previous one is mostly based on rumour

Miss M, 23,480 is the approximate number if Marple residents who do not contribute to this subject on the forum.

As for your petition, yes, we know about that. We know it includes people who don't live in Marple, people who have been asked to sign it by friends and are too polite to reduse, people who were unaware that the scheme would provide their kids and grandkids with badly-needed new facilities, and people who were bamboozled by being told porkies by your people in a tent in Market Street. And as Simone says, what's it worth right now? Zip. Zilch. Zero.
