Posted on behalf of Kerry Walmsley, SMBC:

Many thanks to those who attended the ‘Buildings of Local Interest in Marple’ presentation on Wednesday 31st August at Marple Senior Citizens Hall. The event was a great success and well attended by members of the community and local groups. Following the informative talk, those in attendance were given the opportunity to nominate buildings they would like to see on a local list of buildings of architectural and historic interest.

Over the next coming months, Kerry Walmsley, who led the presentation will be working closely with Marple Vision Partnership in compiling a local list. She is undergoing an extensive survey of the area and assessing each nomination against formally adopted criteria of Stockport MBC.

If you would like to nominate a building to go on a local list of architectural and historic interest please fill in the attached nomination form and email to kerry.walmsley@stockport.gov.uk. - It would be great if you can include a photograph of the building however this is not essential.

Alternatively nomination forms can be printed off and posted to:

Kerry Walmsley
Conservation Management Trainee
Place Directorate
Stopford House
Piccadilly
Stockport
SK1 3XE

The project offers many opportunities for volunteers who are interested in areas such as local history, architecture and photography. You may like to take some pictures of local buildings or even look through the census records of a nominated building to find out more about the people that lived in them. However big or small your contribution it will help to promote the unique heritage that Marple has to offer.

If you are interested in becoming a volunteer or would like to find out more about the project please email kerry.walmsley@stockport.gov.uk , or telephone 0161 474 4884.

Note: a Word Document version of the form is attached. If you have Word you will be able save this on your own pc, edit and send to Kerry. If you don't have Word you can use the attached pdf version to print a copy.

Buildings of Local Interest in Marple - Presentation Evening 31st August 2011 Marple Senior Citizens Hall 6.30pm for 7.00pm

Marple Vision Partnership (MVP) is currently running a project of compiling a local list of buildings of architectural and historic interest. Kerry Walmsley, who is a Heritage Lottery Funded Conservation Management Trainee at Stockport MBC is working closely with the MVP and is taking a lead role with the Local Listing Project.

There are many buildings of local interest that contribute to Marple's distinctiveness and are worthy of recognition and protection.

A presentation is taking place on 31st August at Marple Senior Citizens Hall, Marple Memorial Park, to promote the project and everyone is welcome.

Topics to be discussed will include:

What is a list of Buildings of Local Interest?
What does it mean in practice?
How will it affect Marple?
How are buildings added to the Local List?
How can I make a nomination and get involved?

If you can let us know you will be attending it would be helpful although not essential.
