This is a bit inconclusive and unconfirmed - but I have heard that there are land ownership issues that are preventing the Connect2 project at the weir on Marple Dale from progressing and that potentially will stop it altogether. Sorry if this is just a rumour but if anyone knows how to confirm?

CTCREP - you are clearly the most vocal about cycling and the Sustrans Connect2 project on this forum. I've viewed this video before, and as you point out, Stockport Council has viewed the film as part of a presentation. Existing discussions on the footbridge are covered in this thread -

You obviously feel very passionate about the proposal and I kind of see you as this forum's "mole" on the subject. I would therefore have hoped that you could tell us what the current state of play is and what is causing the hold-up. Maybe you are sniffing around and are being treated to a wall of silence by the council? Please let us know.

After some impressive publicity that included a bridge over the River Goyt in Chadkirk we understand the Sustrans Connect2 project to provide an off road link for cyclists etc between Rosehill and Stockport is at risk as little progress has been made by Stockport Council. As Cyclists we know we come well down the pecking order when it comes to Stockport MBC’s catering for its residents, however it may not be all their fault. For many people the only awareness they have of some bike riders is when they appear from nowhere. However that isn’t cycling and I invite you to view a presentation that was given to Stockport MBC and other User Groups a little while ago that shows how Cycling is catered for in other countries. Part of the presentation will show how Cycling could benefit Marple, and if any of you have any influence over what is holding up the creation of Connect2 we would be grateful if you do what you can to to bring it to a satisfactory conclusion, not just for cyclists but for Marple as a whole.  Please view www.cyclestockport.org.uk
