I agree with marveld.  It's good that offenders are being made to make amends by putting something back into society, but it should not be necessary to humiliate them as well.  It's uncivilised - and just because offenders have been uncivilised, it doesn't mean we should descend to that level too!

I took a walk down the Middlewood Way starting at Rose Hill the other day. I was quite pleased so see the tarmac edges had been cleared of vegetation and naturally thought the council had got on the case. At the Woodville Drive "car park", the workers were just getting into their van and they all had hi-vis waistcoats showing 'Community Payback'.  I've also seen a crew down at Etherow Park helping out fairly recently.

I personally wouldn't make people wear a jacket with lettering, but on the plus side it does give the public greater visibility of the good work offenders are doing.
