Hollins House/Council Offices

Reading the Euromillions thread I was reminded of being told as a girl that Field Marshall Montgomery was a frequent visitor to the house when it was in the hands of the Carvers as he married their daughter-in- law, who had been widowed in the Great War.

I don't think this can be correct as the Carvers passed the house and grounds to Marple Council in the early 1920s and Monty didn't marry Elizabeth Carver until 1927 and anyway wasn't famous enough to be recognised in the street at that time as the person who told me said he was.

Any info on this!
