Ludworth children in deep to raise money for school

More than 90 pupils from Ludworth primary School in Marple Bridge raised over £1,600.00 by swimming, splashing and finally pushing their head teacher into the Romiley Marina Pool on Saturday (6 February). Expert swimmers and young paddlers between 4 and 11 years of age gave their best while having as much fun as possible.

"It's a marvelous event for the children, and a great way of raising money for the school while having fun, staying fit and showing parents what good swimmers they are," said dripping wet headteacher, Mr Roary Pownall.

Ludworth school girls Katherine Bennett, Mia Price, Amy Wyatt and Rebecca Howell raised the most money during the event, swimming as many lengths as possible in an hour.

The main prize was to push their headteacher - fully dressed and wearing arm bands for his own safety - into the deep end.

"It was quite fun, actually!" said a smiling Mia Price after making a huge splash with Mr Pownall.

This is the third year Ludworth children swim to raise funds for their school. The money - a record amount so far - will go towards funding a new electronic school library system.

"We aim to come back next year and beat the record," said Mr Pownall.

"Judging from the reaction among the children, pushing me fully dressed in the pool as first prize has ‘wet’ many appetites."
