Stockport Council is urging residents to get more active in the New Year, with help from their brand new Active Stockport Podcasts.

Government guidelines recommend that adults should do a minimum of 30 minutes moderate-intensity physical activity, five days a week. And the Active Stockport campaign is designed to help people fit this exercise into their daily routine. These new podcasts are the ideal way to help you achieve your 5 x 30 minutes per week.

The podcasts include an all over workout you can do without even leaving your own home, a simple outdoor workout and tips for a healthy diet. Just download them to your MP3 player or play on your computer, follow the instructions carefully and start getting active.

Councillor Shan Alexander, Executive Member for Leisure, said: “I would urge everyone to make a New Year’s resolution to get more active. Visit the website, download the podcasts and take the first step. If you enjoy the great outdoors then any one of our parks is the ideal place to get some exercise, or with these podcasts you can even do a workout in your own home.”

Councillor Maggie Clay, Executive Member for Adults and Health, added: “Active Stockport is designed to provide helpful advice about how to fit some form of exercise into our daily lives. Most of us want to improve our health and well-being and these podcasts are a great way to start. Being more active can help improve your health and happiness and combat obesity.”

The podcasts are available to download for free from www.stockport.gov.uk/active
