The construction chapter of the Iron Bridge project diary has now been created. It currently includes the latest news about the award of the contract for the restoration work and the expected start date of work in the park. It's at the usual location: www.marple-uk.com/ironbridge

Iron Bridge Decision Day!

As regular users of the site will know, the Iron Bridge Restoration grant application was submitted to the Heritage Lottery Fund in January this year. In just over a week’s time, on Thursday 7th June, the HLF committee will meet to decide if they will award us a grant.

The total project value has grown to approximately £556k and we are asking the HLF for £425k, having raised in partnership with Stockport Council approximately £131k in match funding. This comprises of £71.5k cash (£59k from SMBC and £12.5k that we have raised from the community with your help) and £59.5k of non-cash contributions.

After 6 years of campaigning, fund raising and working with SMBC to achieve our aim of restoring the iron bridge, it is quite scary to be so close to such a major make or break milestone.

We expect to be advised of the decision sometime during the day on Thursday the 7th and you will probably learn the result here before anyone else.

For all those of you who have helped us get to this point, thank you very much for your support. We hope you will all do one more thing for us and keep your fingers crossed for a successful outcome!

As always, you can read more about the Iron Bridge Project at www.marple-uk.com/ironbridge
