The Virtual Time Tour of Marple

I had a map that shows the layout of some of the buildings but I can't seem to lay my hands on it at the moment - a good tidy up is called for! I'll upload it to the Tour when it turns up. In the meantime, here's our Christmas present to all you folks who enjoy the old photos in our Virtual Tour:

A gentleman from South Wales called Kevin Gilbert recently purchased a collection of nearly 70 glass negative slides as a job lot because some of them featured World War I soldiers (at Brabyns Hall Military Hospital). A few of the scenes were identifiable as being of Marple due to the writing on them so Kevin's son did an Internet search and found us. When Kevin saw our Virtual Tour he got in touch and subsequently sent us a set of scanned copies of the slides.

Quite a lot of the images we already have on the Tour, or similar ones; however, the quality of these new copies is outstanding, allowing us to pick out details that were not apparent before and gradually replace some of the poorer copies we have. In addition there are several very rare photographs that we have never seen before, so we are particularly grateful to Kevin for his generosity in allowing us to share them with you.

The first twelve images have gone on today as an appetiser and the rest of them will be added to the Tour between now and the Christmas holidays so keep checking back for more.

Twelve new photographs of Marple Hall have been added to the Tour today, especially for a lady in Canada who intends to make a scale model of the hall. She has been planning and gathering information for this for several years and we have been corresponding for most of this time. We even met at the site of the hall in 2004 and I'm really looking forward to seeing the results!

Thanks to Ray there are now names for most of the faces in the Willows pictures. If anyone can fill the few gaps that are left it would be great.

Lovely photos of the old hall.  Does anyone have a map showing the location of all these buildings and grounds overlaying what exists now?

Hi Ray,

No, I've just checked back and found the email with the pictures but there are no names mentioned in it. If you can send them then I'd be delighted to update the captions.

While I'm writing, thanks for the many pictures you've sent us over the last few years Ray, you've provided some great additions to the Tour.

Cheers,

Mark

Twelve more images have have been added to the tour today: Five are from the collection of glass slides mentioned in the previous post, a couple of Marple Cricket Club and the rest a variety of mainly people shots from Ray Noble, who is doing a stirling job digging out these old images.
