Where was Jessie Field?

I believe Jessie Field was originally part of the Nab Wood Farm estate, see this Genes Reunited link.

I don't have a subscription to Genes Reunited but the public text reads as below
Chester Chronicle Cheshire, England 5 Sep 1863
Bnbtnit to SALE by PTJBLIC AUCTION, at the Warren Bulkeley Arms Inn, iv Stockport, on Friday, tbe 25th day of
LOT 11. A piece of very superior LAND, admirably adapted for building upon, being part of tbe said Nab Estate, called tbe Jessie Field, containing 2a. Or. 2Sp.. having a very considerable frontage to tbe said turnpike-road, and overlooking the Chadkirk

And looking at old maps it does indeed show Jessiefield as being quite close to Nab Estate.

Thanks for posting more pictures.  I believe Nab Wood is over towards the Hare+Hounds pub on Dooley Lane.

Thank you sgk. I've amended the caption and album for the image  :)

A number of photos provided by Carole O'Halloran - born in Marple in 1945 (Carole Clayton) - from Australia have been added to the Virtual Tour this morning.

http://visitmarple.co.uk/photos/thumbnails.php?album=lastup&cat=26

The photos include the crowning of Carole's mum Florence Clayton as "Legion Queen of Marple" with a fantastic procession along Market Street and the crowning, which probably took place in Marple Memorial Park.

There is also a photo of Carole's dad Percy outside 5 Goyt Avenue in 1926. Percy still lives with Carole in Oz and they will celebrate his 104th birthday in August!

Here's a recent article with a photo of Percy:

What a truly wonderful set of photo's. Any idea who those "visitors" to the bridge were? Any idea when it was taken.... Not sure a picture taken today would have the same impact in 100 years time (but I could be wrong).

RH

Sadly there is no information with the images as to who they were or when it was, although I would guess by the clothing that the two large groups on the bridge are pre-WWI, around 1905-1910-ish. I always include any info that is available in the captions but all too often there is none. I'm not sure about pictures in 100 years having the same impact - perhaps they will - but it's important to make a note on the back of dates and names because they are so much more interesting when you know something about them. It also needs a little thought - quite often people will write "me with aunty Hilda" but in 100 years nobody will have any idea who "me" is :(
