I think it's a shame the wooden flooring didn't survive!

I asked about it recently and was told it was used somehow at the community building in Brabyns Park. I'm not sure how as I've never been in that building.

There's a hall area - it's probably the flooring there.  I went in for a children's birthday party once but it was a couple of years ago and to be honest, I wasn't paying much attention to the facilities!  But there's a few pictures on the website that handles bookings - including of a wooden floor.  Could be the one.

I think it's a shame the glitterball didn't survive at the baths.

30 new images provided by Dr Ken Lodge were uploaded to the Virtual History Tour yesterday.

They are mostly taken on the Marple Hall Estate when it was fields, some 1950s festivals and Marple Swimming Pool with the dance floor down.

I do really enjoy seeing old photos of the area and trying to spot their location. I'm not sure it that's exactly where it was but I do remember a "Marple Hall Pond" when I walked to The Dale primary school from Vernon Drive past a pond, which is where Mandalay Gardens is now, through the passage to Flaggwood. It was probably around 1973 and at that point it was mostly filled in and there were piles of construction debris around the place as they hadn't yet started building the houses at the top of Vernon Drive and along Marple hall Drive to The Turnpike.

It's such a shame that we lost Marple Hall and Brabyns Hall within a few short years of each other. I don't know if the The National Trust was ever involved, but Marple could have looked very different than it does now if those houses and grounds could have been saved.

The old Marple Co-Op Entrance

The week after the opening of a new Co-Op in Marple, check out these amazing photos of the entrance to the old Marple Co-Op demolished in January 1974 added to the Virtual History Tour this morning c/o Marple Local History Society: https://visitmarple.co.uk/photos/thumbnails.php?album=lastup&cat=-19

Obviously no shortage of loo roll in those days!

This morning Phil Fern has shared six photos he took of the Bowling Green Pub Fire on September 11th 2001, didn't get developed until 2010 and then rediscovered in 2020:

Boating Pool in Memorial Park

This great photo of the boating pool and library in Marple Memorial Park was kindly donated to the Virtual History Tour and Marple Local History Society with a couple of others by Caroline Calverley.

It must date from the mid to late 1970s as the library was built in 1974.

A selection of 59 images from Marple Local History Society Archives have been uploaded to the Virtual History Tour this afternoon. Many of them are of Town Street, Marple Bridge, in the 1990s but there are some older ones and a few around Marple too:

Yes, interesting picture.  They certainly do look out of place up there - and of course there are no passengers!  :(

As far as I can recall, back in the 1980s, most 363 buses would turn round at Mellor rec (just as some 375s do now), but a few would continue to New MIlls, and a few others would continue up through Moor End and turn round at Five Lane Ends - in those days they didn't drive along Shiloh Road to turn round.   It looks as though that's what the bus in the picture is doing.  If you look very closely you can see the angle of the front wheels, and that the doors are open, and I think the driver is in the process of turning round.
Do you remember the (I think) SHMD buses that had the long seats upstairs?

The 375's being run by double deckers at the minute, and I keep thinking how incongruous they must look parked up at the end of a farm track in the middle of Shiloh Road, surrounded by fields and a view towards Kinder Scout.

So I was quite interested to see that picture of a double decker bus coming off Shiloh Road in the 1980s!

Interesting stuff.  One especially stood out for me.

The 375's being run by double deckers at the minute, and I keep thinking how incongruous they must look parked up at the end of a farm track in the middle of Shiloh Road, surrounded by fields and a view towards Kinder Scout.  Any bus parked there looks odd - double deckers must look especially so.
