Just on this matter. Is there a police rep that attends the monthly marple community meetings ? I would assume that this matter could be voiced through that medium or via the 'friends of' groups that Marple/Marple Bridge have. If you want to ensure that there is a police presence in your local area ( and I speak from experience here ), reporting crime is the only way to ensure that this finite resource is allocated. The more reports that are made, the more likely that we will be recognised as worthy of an allocation. If you think it is a waste of time and do not report it, they will be pointed elsewhere which I am sure will make the problem worse !!

Just a thought rising from the comments by Inspector Dermot Morrissey about closures.  Why is it that Stockport Divsion police stations - with the exception of the Divisional HQ and Cheadle - all close for dinner when the rest of the Greater Manchester Police Divisions stay open and often for longer hours?

Is it because people in Stockport Division are nicer and more law abiding?

We have just received information regarding timescale:

Inspector Morissey stated that they are talking talking years not months.

She also said they are looking for a premises for the police to work from which could also contain a number of different agencies.

I'll let you know know more when I do...

Thanks for all your work chasing this up Mike, Topics like this need to be given more public airing so people actually know what is going on.

This is the situation as I understand at the moment:

Inspector Morrissey stated that the station in Marple wouldn't close in the immediate future (however long that is noone knows!! ).

She (at least I think she) also said that even if the police station was to close, it would only be after the police officers for Marple have been relocated to another place within Marple.  She did state that even if the station was to close there would continue to be a police prescence in Marple.

There is a sign on the enquiry desk at the station saying that it is due to close shortly, but that only applys to the enquiry desk, not the whole station.  Inspector Morrisey claims that the Enquiry Desk is outside her remit.

The District Centre Partnership has been promised to be kept informed any any further developments.

To be absolutley sure of things I would contact either Patrick (Chair, Marple District Centre Partnership) or Brian (SMBC Regeneration Officer for Marple),

I heard the rumour of the station closing several weeks ago. When was Inspector Morissey asked about it Mike? And if it was said no immediate plans, how long might that be valid for? A week, a month, a year or more?

The question of the closure of Marple Police Station was put to Inspector Morissey and we were told that there are no immediate plans to close the station.

Although, it was stated that there could be no gaurentees about the future!

I heard this afternoon from an extremely reliable source that Marple Police Station is to close! The Police Authority are apparently keeping this news under wraps but it is non the less true.

It may come as no surprise to some following the gradual removal of officers but my concern is the message that this sends.

The police are very good at assuring us that they are targeting street crime but following a recent spate of armed robberies, increased activity by large gangs of disruptive, agressive youths wrecking anything & everything in their paths and petty crimes too numerous to mention they now remove any semblance of presence on our streets.

I'm not generally one for having at go at the authorities but how can this reduction in resources be justified? They tell us reported crime is down but we all know that this is because nobody reports them anymore because nothing happens when you do, (take Chris's post on this forum 'Brabyns Station car park' as an example.

And where are our elected representatives when we need them? Somebody please tell me that they are on the case at this very moment fighting our corner.

Maybe if, like the Chief Constable, we all bury our heads in the sand life will be all rosy again.
