Title: Toast
Post by: stringjunior on February 24, 2006, 11:37:40 AM
Haven't posted on here before but thought I'd start by recommending a new place I've been to in Marple called Toast. I went yesterday evening and what a refreshing change it was too.

It bills itself as a deli, coffee shop and wine bar and I think it was wonderful, if a little small. What suprised me was that everything in there was organic or fairtrade or locally produced. The beer I had was as good, if not better than you'll get in a good bar, and the wine my wife had was beautiful. The coffee to finish off was the best coffee I've had this side of the channel - honestly!

I didn't try their food, but it looks like simple stuff (olives, dips, cheese platters etc) which they say accompanies the wine and beer, rather then the other way round. It reminded me of The Nose in Didsbury if any body remembers it.

It's different, refreshing and no smoking. I just hope that with it being a small private business it can compete with the pubs and restauants in the area.

Highly recommended!

It's on Market Street opposite Gallery 44. Used to be Cafe Med. I understand the new owner plays trumpet but will forgive him this once ??? Welcome to the forum Stringjunior!

Very old musicians' joke: 'How can you tell if it's a banjo player at the door?'  'He can't find the key and he doesn't know when to come in'.

I think, although I'm not sure, that the owner is going back to Spain.

By the way, popped in for a sandwhich at lunch yesterday and had a Feta, Rocket, Pesto and Pine Nut sandwhich - it was beautiful.
