Post by: Sharky on February 03, 2022, 04:54:50 PM
Re: Road Closures in Marple, Stockport  on 18th  June, 2022

Please be advised that Marple Carnival Committee has submitted a request to Stockport M.B.C. to close roads to vehicular traffic in the centre of Marple on 18th June, 2022 from 11.30 a.m. to 2.30 p.m.  for its Carnival Parade (start time 1 p.m).

Strines Road, Oldknow Road, Stockport Road, Hibbert Lane, Buxton Lane, Cross Lane, Station Road and side roads connected to the above will be affected. Closures will be phased and temporary with roads re-opening once the parade has passed.

Oldknow Road will be closed from 11.30 a.m. for the full duration of the parade and diversions will be in place to direct traffic along  Arkwright Road and Strines Road.

Stewards will be positioned strategically to assist with the closure of adjoining roads and to assist emergency vehicles if needed.

Please be advised that Stockport MBC has granted the Marple Carnival Committee permission to close the following roads to all vehicular traffic in the centre of Marple from 11.00.m. to 3.00 p.m. on Saturday 18th June 2022, for the Marple Carnival Parade to take place:

Closed to all traffic - Oldknow Road (from 11.00 a.m to 3.00 p.m.)

Phased closure from 12.45 p.m.: Arkwright Road, Strines Road, Stockport Road, Hibbert Lane, Church Lane, Derby Road, Buxton Lane, Cross Lane, Station Road, Stockport Road and Memorial Park Way.

The parade will start from Oldknow Road, Arkwright Road and Strines Road  at 1.00 p.m. and will proceed along Stockport Road, Hibbert Lane, Buxton Lane, Cross Lane and return to Oldknow Raod, Strines Road and Arkwright via Stockport Road and Memorial Park Way.

Adjoining roads to the parade route will also be closed as the parade progresses. All road closures will be on a phased basis to allow traffic to proceed along alternative roads.

The parade will be stopped at intervals to ensure that no major gaps develop in the procession line and will be stationary for periods of time along Buxton Lane and Cross Lane to allow live traffic to be halted before it can proceed to the next phase of its route.

Oldknow Road will be closed to traffic for the whole duration of the parade and a diversion for traffic from Marple Bridge and New Mills will be in place along Arkwright Road and Strines Road.

Stewards will be stationed at the junctions of adjoining roads to the parade route to  assist emergency service vehicles and pedestrians and to halt on coming and merging traffic as the parade approaches. PLEASE STOP AND WAIT PATIENTLY if advised to do so.

Temporary NO WAITING restrictions will also be in operation along Oldknow Road, Arkwright Road, Strines Road and  Stockport Road on the day.
