Title: Covid19 Information Updates
Post by: Malcolm Allan on March 19, 2020, 10:06:16 AM
The council is working on all the government announcements and in many cases waiting for more information. You can see latest news from them on https://www.stockport.gov.uk/news/statement-on-covid-19  which has up to date info on a range of topics. The school closure and disruptions page on https://www.stockport.gov.uk/school-closures-and-disruptions  will also help in days to come. The list of those parents/carers classed as key workers will be published by the cabinet office today but is not known yet. Same applies to how councils are to help businesses via council tax and local assistance.

The Government have now published a list of critical workers where schools will still aim to provide education at the school. This appeared overnight and can be found on the government web site

https://www.gov.uk/government/topical-events/coronavirus-covid-19-uk-government-response

It’s not a list as such, but a series of descriptions. Stockport Council has published information about volunteering. Local groups are doing a great job. If you want to volunteer more broadly this is being co-ordinated by Healthwatch and Age UK.  Information and contacts for volunteering are at

www.stockport.gov.uk/communities

which includes advice to self-organising group locally

Update on some information

PARENTS: people are understandably anxious about what to do on Monday. If you’re not sure you can contact Stockport Council who have already been responding to individual issues. The contact is school.enquiries@stockport.gov.uk
This line is manned from 9-5 today and into next week

Other info
SMBC has as much information as they know so far from the government on the web site. The quickest access is to go onto the main SMBC web site and put “coronavirus” into the enquiry box. On the page that comes up you will see boxes for information on
Business and employees support (still waiting for info but you can register for some things)
Council tax relief
Bin collections info
How to help your community

Other things to note:
Transport for Greater Manchester has removed the limits on concessionary fares so those people can travel at any time of day. Tram and bus timetables will change on Monday 23rd with fewer services. There are refunds available on season tickets/travelcards if you are not travelling now
Northern are likely to change their timetable with fewer trains. Check on their web site

Lastly and very sadly, some people are trying to exploit the situation. I’ve seen a mail on TV licence expiry trying to get bank details. It’s bogus. Make sure those who may not see through this are warned.

Some more general information.

Advance train tickets will be eligible for a full refund from the ticket issuing organisation (I posted something about season ticket refunds in a previous message)
There is a new “emergency” train timetable available on
https://www.northernrailway.co.uk/key-worker-timetables (https://www.northernrailway.co.uk/key-worker-timetables)

There is a list of the types of shop that are OK to stay open. The best version I’ve seen of this is on the BBC web site:
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-52011915 (https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-52011915)

Free school Meals
•   A meal will be provided to all pupils and staff who remain in school and require a meal
•   A free school meal will be provide to all pupils who are entitled to one under the benefits system, which will take the form of a packed lunch or grab bag.
Schools should be contacted in the second case and bear in mind collection may be from a location other than the school

Volunteering

Stockport council are acting as a first point of contact for volunteers and should be contacted at: neighbourhoods@stockport.gov.uk

Stockport council buildings are in general closed to the public but the office for registration of births and deaths remains open in the Town Hall and SEND child care remains open.
Greater Manchester Waste Authority have closed all domestic tips including the local ones.

A further update on general information and help:

For those who would like to add to the huge number of volunteers to help the NHS, in response to the Government request, the web site is: https://www.goodsamapp.org/NHS (https://www.goodsamapp.org/NHS)

It is an easy registration process but you will need ID of some kind to hand when you apply.

News from the council

The Stockport Local Fund is open for local Voluntary Organisations to request some funding assistance. Grants of between £200 and £1000 will be available aimed at those people most affected by the pandemic, including older people, children and families and people on low incomes. Groups can apply for anything they need to support people during the crisis, including things like food parcels, running costs, emergency supplies, transport etc. To apply contact: www.stockport.gov.uk/supportfund (http://www.stockport.gov.uk/supportfund)

There is a Stockport scheme to provide an online portal where employers needing extra staff as a result of the virus, can be matched to individuals seeking employment opportunities due to their circumstances in the current situation. The website is: www.stockport-jobsmatch.co.uk (http://www.stockport-jobsmatch.co.uk)

Waste collections are being maintained, but staff is reduced like everywhere else due to illness and self-isolation. There may be reduced collections but not for now. If that happens, priority will be to maintain black bin collections. The highways programme has been suspended for now so workers can be redirected to frontline work. All inquests have been cancelled up to 17th April.

Latest update news:

PARKING
All Stockport MBC parking charges are being suspended, right across the Borough. There should be signs up on pay meters now to explain this and I certainly saw some in Marple today. That does mean free parking on Council run car parks.

TfGM
have their adjusted timetables and other information (remember this is different to Northern Trains) on: https://tfgm.com/coronavirus (https://tfgm.com/coronavirus)

VOLUNTEERS
For any regular blood donors, it is OK to give blood while this is on and you are not at any greater risk. There is an appeal out for blood donors and you can arrange to give via the web site: https://blood.co.uk (https://blood.co.uk)
Travelling to give blood is approved as essential travel

SELF-EMPLOYED
people will have heard about the measures announced yesterday. For information go to: https://businesssupport.gov.uk (https://businesssupport.gov.uk)
The 80% assistance is called the Self-employment Income Support Scheme. If this doesn’t help, people may be eligible for council tax relief and business interruption help.

UPDATE
To add to Admin's post below, people will have seen the change in bin collections we forewarned may happen. The reason for this is a shortage of staff to do the collection runs. It’s worth bearing in mind that not anyone can drive a bin wagon. It’s an HGV and tricky at the best of times. Once there is a shortage of drivers beyond normal absence levels, it is difficult to replace them, and currently impossible to qualify. The same shortage applies to the staff in the teams.

For those who haven’t seen the Stockport Web Site, and to summarise the post below, in brief, the changes only apply to blue and green bins. Black and brown will be collected as normal, exactly as per your local household schedule

Blue Bins: From 6th April will be collected every 4 weeks (rather than every two weeks currently).

Green Bins: No further collection until further notice. Future food waste to be put in black bins.

We are told this will be kept under review, and we have made the Council aware the green bins are full in many cases locally, after people have been occupied stuck in at home in their gardens. This doesn’t affect everyone across the Borough as some homes don’t have gardens and others rarely use the green bins.

OTHER UPDATES
Just to note some banks (maybe all) are increasing the contactless limit from £30 to £45. This may take a few days for payment machines to be adjusted but will help many, and keep physical contact to the minimum.

Those who have volunteered with the NHS – this scheme will start from 31st March and build up so don’t worry if you are not contacted for a while yet.

Updates

Just a couple of things that might help people:

Stockport Libraries have suspended all fines for overdue books and there’s no need to renew (even on line). This will be reviewed on 1st July. Any returns due back from 1st February, including if you have had a written reminder, will have the need for renewals suspended and no fines applied.

For those of you, employees or employers, who may be covered by the 80% payment for furlough (Job Retention Scheme) full details are now on the government web site (usual site via gov.uk.coronavirus) including how to calculate if you have variable earnings and the cut off for who it applies to.   There is still no portal for applications but you can ensure you are doing the right things to get covered – or checking that your employer is!

Update

Again here are some random things people might find helpful

I've picked up the same thing as admin below, so here is a bit more detail and alternatives. Some people depend on getting their hearing aid batteries from the library. Libraries are closed and here are two other options. One is to call Stepping Hill audiology on 0161-419-4183 (audiology@stockport.nhs.uk). Alternatively there is a charity who will assist, called Walthew House on 0161-480-2162 and admin@walthewhouse.org.uk

Anyone who is regarded as “extremely vulnerable” ( the 1.5 million as announced by the Government), should by now have received their letter. These were sent on 30th March. Stockport Council and the Area NHS are jointly following up with another letter detailing all the assistance locally. Strictly for these people there is a dedicated helpline on 0161-217-6046, open 9-5 Monday to Friday and 10-4 Saturday. This is only for these people (who should be in strict isolation at home) or their carers. Food parcels are ready for those of them who need them and will come via the council on request.

Healthwatch Stockport has, at the end of last weekend assisted over 150 local people with active support, etc. This is just to say this support is now up and running and can be accessed.
They have a website giving “top tips” for those helping the vulnerable or even just collecting shopping or medicines.  https://www.healthwatchstockport.co.uk/news/2020-03-20/coronavirus-covid-19-downloads-top-tips-and-updates (https://www.healthwatchstockport.co.uk/news/2020-03-20/coronavirus-covid-19-downloads-top-tips-and-updates)

Update: Some further information to help:

Royal Mail has a useful web site (just go to “Royal mail (https://www.royalmail.com/)”). Any mail for collection will be held for longer now – 30 days.

These must be especially difficult times for people living with dementia and their carers. Stockport Councils’ specialist group are offering a telephone helpline for these people. The helpline will provide advice about supporting people with dementia at this difficult time. The number is 0799 077 7175 open Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 9am to 1pm, and Thursdays from 3pm to 6.30pm. e-mail: stockportdementiacaretraining@nhs.net

Some difficult messages now:

It’s very sad to say some people are seeking to scam others over the virus. Please be extra vigilant, for example never give bank details out over the internet. No government agency will email or phone you about debts to be paid or extra cash you’re due. All bona fide callers will gladly show you ID. Those that won’t are not genuine. Tell those who maybe aren’t as computer savvy as yourself to be cautious.

These times are also a period when tensions can lead to domestic abuse. There is a lot of help (and you may be able to help those affected by this by directing them to relevant agencies):

Children: Speak to the Multi-Agency Safeguarding and Support Hub (MASSH) for immediate support and signposting to relevant services. Call:

• Monday to Thursday from 8:30 am to 5pm: 0161 217 6028
• Friday from 8:30am to 4:30pm: 0161 217 6028
• Evening, overnight and weekends: 0161 718 2118

Adults: If you have a safeguarding concern in relation to a vulnerable adult call our Adult Social Care team:

• Monday to Thursday from 8:30am to 5pm: 0161 217 6029
• Friday from 8:30am to 4:30pm: 0161 217 6029
• Evening, overnight and weekends: 0161 718 2118

You can also email: adultsocialcare@stockport.gov.uk

Update information: Less gloomy than yesterday, I hope!

TfGM are automatically renewing any disabled passes due up soon, and will renew for one year. No action necessary.

For those eligible for Free School Meals, support will continue throughout what would have been the Easter school holidays

HELPLINE
Stockport Council’s helpline is being well-used on 0161-217-6046. To clarify this is dedicated to those at most risk:

•   Over 70 and self-isolating
•   Received a letter from the Government saying you are at high risk (the 1.5 million people)
•   Medically vulnerable according to Government Criteria

The number is available Monday-Friday 9-5 and Saturdays and bank Holidays 10-4

BUSINESS
The first grants from the council have been paid, with more in the pipeline. You can still apply on https://www.stockport.gov.uk/start/small-business-grant-funding (https://www.stockport.gov.uk/start/small-business-grant-funding)

STOCKPORT HOMES
Tenants can find support and guidance on the normal web page: www.stockporthomes.org (http://www.stockporthomes.org)

HOMELESS
Local people are very caring about the areas homeless. I can confirm the Council is working with rough sleepers and all have an offer of overnight sleeping accommodation in hotels, which includes nobody having to share a room in temporary provision.

GENERAL
The Council website is being regularly updated and includes advice on such things as money, food poverty support, SEND, mental health and mutual aid networks. http://www.stockport.gov.uk/coronavirus (http://www.stockport.gov.uk/coronavirus)

Two posts today, this first is to give people an update on what the council are up to.

Business Grants. To make sure they use time best, staff are working on processing claims during the day, and payments are being made in the evenings or overnight. So far as at 8.00pm last night, 969 claims had been paid making a total of £13.29m and more were done last night. Please ask for help making a grant application if you need it.

The coronavirus helpline for those in most need is staffed by 35 people, including library staff who have been transferred. In the week 30th March to 5th April, 427 calls were dealt with. In addition, 634 calls were made by the council to people on the “shielded” or vulnerable list.

The over 70s are all receiving a leaflet from the Council which was posted today. This gives all sorts of useful numbers and contacts and some advice. My next post will repeat much of that, as it’s useful for us all.

Beware of scams
Fraudsters are exploiting the spread of COVID-19 to facilitate various types of fraud and cyber crime.
Here are some do’s and don’ts to help you stay safe:

• Don’t click on the links or attachments in suspicious emails.
• Don’t answer unsolicited messages or calls that ask for your personal or financial details.
• Do some research before making purchases online - or ask a friend or family member for advice before completing the purchase.
• Do use a credit card for online purchases (if you have one) - most major credit card providers insure online purchases.

Maintaining your mental and physical health
There are some simple things you can do that can help you to stay physically and mentally well:

• Stay in regular touch with family and friends by phone and talk to them about how you are feeling
• Find ways to stay active at home and try to avoid sitting still for long periods of time
• Spend time doing things you enjoy such as reading, cooking, indoor hobbies
• Try to eat healthy, well balanced meals and drink enough water so you stay hydrated
• Avoid smoking, alcohol and drugs
• If you are feeling anxious or worried, try to limit the amount of time you spend watching, reading or listening to media coverage – it may help to check the news at set times or just a couple of times a day

Latest Update :

The Government have issued guidance to parents (and schools) about schooling at home. This includes guidance on whether children will be best placed at a school or in a home setting, guidance for parents faced with how to school children at home and so on. This page below gets access to a whole range of papers.

https://www.gov.uk/government/latest?departments%5B%5D=department-for-education (https://www.gov.uk/government/latest?departments%5B%5D=department-for-education)
Meanwhile, a number of council employees have had to be redeployed in the present situation. We heard before about library staff manning help lines.  The museum staff are on an emergency shopping team for those residents who can’t get out of the house or access other services. Highways and street lighting teams have been delivering food parcels to schools.

The dedicated helpline for the most vulnerable has helped 1,700 callers.  This covers those:
This is also for those residents who don’t have a network of family and friends they can call upon. Support can be accessed on 0161-217-6046 Monday to Friday 9-5 and Saturday 10-4. The system works on a “call back” at busy times.

Some more information:
I know some people are still having problems with bins. The advice is still as it was. With their current reduced capacity, the crews will continue to collect any rounds they are unable to do on subsequent days so residents are advised to leave their bins out for collection on the next possible working day if our crews aren’t able to get to them on their allocated day. Please note that collections will not take place on Saturday or Sunday.

Remote education resources

It is tough for many parents with kids at home that are trying to support them with their tasks for school. The Oak National Academy is an initiative launched this week to support home based learning. This brand-new enterprise has been created by 40 teachers from some of the leading schools across England, backed by government grant funding. It will provide 180 video lessons each week, across a broad range of subjects from maths to art to languages, for every year group from Reception through to Year 10. The BBC has also launched its own education package across TV and online:

I've had some technical problems and been unable to do two posts lately so here's a catch up. Sorry for the volume!

Some more information:
I’ve posted before the contacts where you can get help with computer (“digital”) skills. This has recently been improved, and the “digiknow” scheme that preceded the pandemic is now offering new ways to help residents to get online.

Telephone support is now available for anyone who has access to smartphone, tablet or computer, but needs help getting online for the first time or doing things online. Anyone needing support can call the new helpline on 07537 127 095 and leave their name, number and a brief description of their need and a volunteer Digital Champion will get back to them.

For those that are already online but would like to improve their digital skills or confidence, or if they would like to help others in their household to get online and improve their skills, there are some new Council web pages to help at: https://www.stockport.gov.uk/digiknow.

Business Loans
For small businesses who need further help, the Government has launched an additional scheme for them to be able to access a new fast-track finance, providing loans with a 100% government-backed guarantee for lenders. The scheme starts next week on Monday 4 May, and is called the "Bounce Back Loans Scheme" This is an addition to the existing package of support available to the smallest businesses affected by the pandemic, providing loans of up to £50,000. The scheme has been designed to that firms can get finance in a matter of days.

The government will provide lenders with a 100% guarantee for the loan and pay any fees and interest for the first 12 months. No repayments will be due during the first 12 months. Firms will be able to access these loans through a network of accredited lenders. More information is at https://www.gov.uk/guidance/apply-for-a-coronavirus-bounce-back-loan (https://www.gov.uk/guidance/apply-for-a-coronavirus-bounce-back-loan)

Something on Funding for community groups

Stockport Council are urging local community groups to take up the offer of financial support from Forever Manchester and the National Lottery Community Fund to support their response to the impact of COVID-19.

These unprecedented times are having an impact on voluntary and social sector organisations across Greater Manchester and grassroots community groups have been responding superbly well, coming together with selflessness and enthusiasm to help those most affected.

Forever Manchester is working with the UK Community Foundations to raise money to fund and support community activity across Greater Manchester and are offering awards of up to £5,000 for community groups in the city region. More information and details on how to apply for funding on the Forever Manchester website here: https://forevermanchester.com/community-support-fund/ (https://forevermanchester.com/community-support-fund/)

Local community groups can also apply for support from the National Lottery Community Fund. This Fund helps to distribute money to fund a wide range and projects and activities. They are currently prioritising their funding for organisations that are supporting people who are at high risk from COVID-19 and organisations supporting communities most likely to face increased demand and challenges because of COVID-19. It is £310m of government funding across the country, targeted at organisations responding to the COVID-19 emergency. Some news items for the pandemic

Recycling Centres –
The two that are open will now take more than just black bags. You can take:
•   Garden waste (excluding soil)
•   Cardboard
•   Wood
•   Small bulky items as general waste

Fundraising
A new fundraising website has been launched to support Stockport Voluntary groups. Under the banner “Keep Stockport Caring” this will distribute money raised around local voluntary and community groups to ensure they can continue to provide vital services

DigitalIt’s worth looking at a YouTube video “Mable’s Story” about a 91 year old in Woodley who has just learnt some valuable new computer skills

SENDFor parents with SEND children, there is a new hub offering support and advice to such families. This can be reached on 0161-217-6046 Mon-Fri 9-5, Saturdays and Bank Holidays 10-4

Some bits of extra information:

BUSINESS GRANTS
There is a new grant which will be open on the Stockport Council website at 5.00pm on Monday 18th. This has more discretion involved and is intended for those businesses who have been unable to get a grant so far for various reasons.

Meanwhile so far Stockport has issued 4,720 business grants totalling £54.36m and covering 84% of all businesses eligible. If you haven't heard yet they are working hard to clear the last applications which probably involve some complications.

HELPLINE
The Council telephone helpline, by 14th May, had taken 3,239 calls and made 943 calls out to the vulnerable residents including welfare calls to our most vulnerable.

NEW GUIDANCE
People probably know that the main government web site has been updated quite a bit lately with the new advice. It’s worth another look and there is, for example, some practical advice on face masks – what to use and how to make one!

It’s Mental Health Awareness week this week, which is very pertinent in current times.

Each year the week has a different theme and this year it’s “kindness” which I think is both a welcome reminder, and has been practiced by so many local residents and help groups round here.
From the publicity:

“Research tells us that kindness and our mental health are deeply connected –kindness is an antidote to isolation and creates a sense of belonging. It can help to reduce stress, brings a fresh perspective and deepens friendships. Being kind to yourself is also important – it can prevent shame from corroding our sense of identity and help boost our self-esteem.  Kindness can even improve our feelings of confidence and optimism.
We know that one act of kindness can lead to many more. This type of community action can help us to inspire others as we discover our connections to each other and extend kindness to ourselves.”

“Be kind whenever possible. It is always possible.” The 14th Dalai Lama

Here’s a couple of initiatives around the pandemic

Together in One Voice - virtual choir event

Together In One Voice is a community led event for the whole of Greater Manchester in which residents are invited to join together in song, from their windows and doorsteps on Thursday 28th May at 7.30pm.

The event will be captured under social distancing guidelines with drones, street cameras and residents’ own films and edited together to produce a show for national release on the evening of Sunday 31st May.

The YouTube Live event with Manchester International Festival will feature songs and artists from Greater Manchester’s musical heritage, past and present, with a few special guest appearances. The event will promote community spirit and encourage everyone to take care of their mental health in the weeks and months ahead.

Choir Director Dan McDwyer has been running online choir rehearsals in recent days to promote well being through song.

Remember Me

The coronavirus pandemic has cost tens of thousands of lives across the UK, lives which people want to honour and remember. St Paul’s Cathedral has launched Remember Me, an online book of remembrance for all those in the UK who have died as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. People of any faith, or none, are invited to contribute to Remember Me.

Family, friends or carers of those who have died can submit, free of charge, the name, photograph and a short message in honour of a deceased person via the Remember Me website (http://www.rememberme2020.uk (http://www.rememberme2020.uk)). The initiative is being supported by HRH The Prince of Wales and it is intended that there will be a physical Remember Me memorial at St Paul’s Cathedral.

Pandemic News  items

1.Rose Hill Tip
Some of you will have seen the tip is re-opening tomorrow (Saturday 30th). Bredbury will also be extending its hours from weekends only, to 7 days. Details are on the Council web site but not under “recycling Centres”! The best place to find this is under “news”. Details are:

On that last point, personally I think it’s confusing how they’ve done it so please look at the web page. As a quick guide, Saturday is even, Sunday is odd numbers.

2. Testing
There is a section on the Stockport Council web site about getting tested for the virus. If you’re eligible for a test you should mail testing@stockport.gov.uk after which you will be sent a request form for completion, which will lead to you being given a booking slot. Full details are on https://www.stockport.gov.uk/coronavirus-getting-tested (https://www.stockport.gov.uk/coronavirus-getting-tested)

Two items related to the pandemic:

Reading Challenge
This popular summer event is still going ahead, even though our libraries have closed. It runs from 15th June to 31st August. You can find details on the website below. If you follow up you will need to create an account (or use a previously created one if you’ve entered before). This year is about “the silly squad”. Marple Schools have been previous winners of the challenge!

Here is some general information about the pandemic that might be of interest.

•   The Council will be launching ‘One Stockport’, a new borough wide campaign that builds on the resilience and support communities have demonstrated, and aims to create positivity across the whole borough. ‘One Stockport’ message will be around from Monday – in the press, on posters, on lampposts, on social media – to ask people to continue supporting each other to stay safe.
•   Alongside the campaign the council will be working to ensure sufficient space is available for both pedestrian movement and to allow residents to queue outside premises in a comfortable and safe manner, working with local businesses over the coming weeks, to help us all adapt to living with covid.
•   As a consequence of needing social distancing in the re-opening of shops in particular, the council are likely to introduce a 20mph speed limit in district centres such as Marple – on the basis this helps and encourages pedestrians and cyclists.
•   If you have to travel by public transport from Monday 15 June, you must wear a face covering. It will be your responsibility to provide this and can be a simple scarf or bandana. There are exemptions for children under the age of 11 and students travelling on dedicated school bus services, people who have trouble breathing, carers and anyone whose condition means they are unable to wear a face covering.
•   To enable more social distancing on Metrolink the frequency of trams is being increased to every 10 minutes from Monday 22 June.
•   Metrolink are also installing hand sanitiser dispensers at bus stations and interchanges and at busy Metrolink stops
•   Whilst the North West region has one of the highest infection rate (cases per 100,000 people) within the 10 boroughs of Greater Manchester, Stockport and Salford have the lowest rate. Tameside and Bury have the highest.
•   The economic impact of covid has been and will be significant:
o   71% of Stockport businesses responding to a GM survey say they have decreased sales.
o   29% report cash flow issues.
o   56% have furloughed staff with 60% of those furloughing more than half of their workforce. HMRC data shows that 33,700 people in Stockport are currently furloughed.
o   19% report having enough cash to survive for 3 months.
o   Out of work benefit claimants increased by 68% since February
Meanwhile the Council have:
•   Paid out c£58 million business grants to 5,033 qualifying businesses, 92% of those identified as eligible.
•   Got under way the discretionary grant scheme around 400 extra businesses with a further £3.2 million.
•   Set up the Stockport Business Recovery website which has nearly 2,000 visits per week,
•   Set up Stockport Jobs Match – 5,200 visits, 205 vacancies, 50+ businesses using it.
•   Prior to the pandemic the council customarily had 200 staff working from home on any particular day. During the pandemic it became 2000.

FACE MASKS INFO - Exemptions

There are several exemptions to wearing face coverings, including children under the age of 11, anyone with a disability or condition which means they are unable to wear one, transport staff and emergency services. I know that some residents may be concerned about how they can show they are exempt.
A Journey Assist card was launched by TFGM last month to help those who are exempt from wearing a face covering. The card, which can be downloaded to a device or printed off and used as a flash pass, is available by contacting TFGM’s customer team on 0161 244 1000 or through the TfGM website https://tfgm.com/contact
The card is also available in Travelshops across Greater Manchester. Journey Assistance cards from other transport operators are also recognised.
Another organisation, “Hidden Disabilities” have produced a range of products for these situations, see https://hiddendisabilitiesstore.com/shop.html and their ‘face covering exempt’ cards are 55p each.

Testing
The council are encouraging any Stockport residents who are unwell, to get tested either by emailing  http:// testing@stockport.gov.uk, or through booking at https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/testing-and-tracing/get-an-antigen-test-to-check-if-you-have-coronavirus/ or by phoning 119.

Covid 19 Update
People will know the infection rate is increasing. If you want to keep up to date with these figures, they are updated weekly on https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/national-covid-19-surveillance-reports. This includes data for Stockport although you have to look through a long document!
Stockport is currently on the watch list with the rate at 48.7 per 100,000
There are four testing centres in Stockport. There are walk-in centres at Tiviot Dale, Brinnington and Hazel Grove with the other a mobile centre. They are open 8.00am -8.00 pm, 7 days a week. In every case an advance booking has to be made via the national websites
There is a lot of guidance on line now. I’m not responsible for it! It can be confusing and difficult to read. If anyone needs help, please feel welcome to contact me. I’m not an expert but I can find things for you. The useful updated guidance covers:
•   Coronavirus FAQs on https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/coronavirus-outbreak-faqs-what-you-can-and-cant-do
•   Closures (and opening) of business on https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/further-businesses-and-premises-to-close/closing-certain-businesses-and-venues-in-england.
•   Downloadable resources – particularly helpful for shops and business, including a free downloadable QR code for your business – takes a few days https://covid19.nhs.uk/information-and-resources.html
•   Guidance on funerals on https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/covid-19-guidance-for-managing-a-funeral-during-the-coronavirus-pandemic/covid-19-guidance-for-managing-a-funeral-during-the-coronavirus-pandemic.
There is a local book of condolence where you can include tributes on line http://www.condolence.website/

COVID
The following may be helpful to people for the 4 week lock down. I’ll update further when I know more.

What is staying open:
Playgrounds
Tips (recycling centres)
Libraries that are already open including Marple
Bin collections continue as now

Grants for businesses
Businesses and retailers/pubs forced to close or which are severely impacted by the lock down have two potential grants:
“Local Restriction Support Grant (Closed)” which is the announced Government help
And
“Additional Restrictions Grant”, which is a local discretionary grant.
Both will be obtained through Stockport Council who are still waiting for the final guidance from the Government.

These are both in addition to the Local Restriction Grant Schemes for the time we have been in Tier 2 and 3 – again waiting for some confirmation but details on this is on Government web sites.

Extremely Vulnerable Residents
For those in this category who are required to shield/protect themselves for the next four weeks, there is a cash support which is grant funded by the Government. Again details awaited.
Title: Re: Covid19 Information Updates

Overnight, the government have published further information about business grants which is a copy of their guidance to councils, who are still setting up their systems to take action. In some cases this doesn’t add a lot but there is a little about discretionary grants. There is also final guidance on the extended furlough scheme.
I need to correct my posts below which said cash grants will be given to those defined as “Extremely Vulnerable Persons”. The help that will be given, yet to be determined by the local council, is based on a cash grant per capita from government to the council, but is not expected to include any cash payments to individuals. The help is more likely to be in-kind or as before food/vouchers to a certain value. Apologies. All those defined in this category should have received a government letter by now.

Some Covid information
Many businesses will already have followed up on grants available during this second lockdown. If not, it is worth applying for the local discretionary grants – information was updated yesterday on:
https://www.stockport.gov.uk/discretionary-grant-schemes

Testing guidance has been updated which includes information on lateral flow test and quick tests.
https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/how-tests-and-testing-kits-for-coronavirus-covid-19-work

It’s also worth people noting the the Health and Safety Executive are now visiting premises to check they are following Covid guidance.

Anyone can be forgiven for being confused about the restrictions that apply from 2nd December. Plus the Government web site is, in my opinion getting harder and harder to navigate. This is the page for the tier rules from 2nd December, different from the ones when we were last in tiers.
https://www.gov.uk/guidance/local-restriction-tiers-what-you-need-to-know

Flu vaccinations have now been extended free to people aged 50-64 (up to now 65 and over and young children were free). Health and Social Care staff will also be eligible for a free jab, all via your own GP practice.

Some coronavirus information

Data for the Borough of Stockport: Cases are now at an average of 378.3 cases per 100,000 (up from 225.6 last week), with the higher figures in those wards bordering those with Manchester. Testing is finding 150.6 new cases per day compared to 94.6 last week. Parts of the UK have much worse data but action is still important for our area.

Vaccinations started in the Borough last week and it is expected all care home residents and over 80s will have been given their first shot by 15th January. As of this Monday 1,400 out of 2,000 care home staff had been vaccinated. Stockport is targeting 10,000 vaccinations a week shortly. Stockport has decided NOT to stand down second appointments and honouring those already made over the next fortnight
WARNING: apparently there is a scam going round saying patients will be vaccinated at home (not true; all is being done via GPs) and/or asking for bank details prior to vaccinations. Please be wary.

Well being
Guidance is available on the following web site which has lots of contact details

https://assets.ctfassets.net/ii3xdrqc6nfw/3T4vNp5hs1hg3Npm2zbGEa/6e7a5442b2495e00510fcdf772c11ab7/Support_in_Stockport_if_you-re_feeling_anxious__stressed_or_low.pdf

that’s a long address to copy or cut and paste so alternatively go to the Coronavirus page on the Stockport MBC web site and then hit the “Health and Well being" tab.

*Apologies I was given the wrong information about one aspect on my post below.

Vaccinations are being managed by local groupings of GP practices. There are 7 in Stockport Borough. All 7 will have started to give vaccinations to care homes and over 80s by 15th January. Some have started already. They will not be complete by 15th January. Sorry!

Worth sharing - there's going to be a popup vaccination centre at Mersey Square, Stockport on Friday and Saturday for first doses.  Open to anyone 36 years of age and over, health and social care workers, unpaid carers and anyone over 30 with underlying health conditions.  No appointment needed - just turn up.
Details at https://www.stockport.gov.uk/news/stockport-town-centre-walkin-vaccination-site

If you are eligible and have yet to have your first dose, why not pop along!  You can also book a vaccination at Brookdale Club and Theatre, Bramhall, at www.nhs.uk/covid-vaccination.

Our local GPs are apparently not doing under 50s (besides those with medical conditions) so if you're under 50, this is a good opportunity to it done with somewhere with good transport links.

As reported in the news, rates across the country have considerably worsened ahead of the announcement tomorrow (Monday). This is the situation in Stockport Borough.

The rate of infection in Stockport Borough has increased significantly to 230.4 per 100,000 (141.4) which remains well above the national average of 64.7 (35.0). New cases are also significantly up at 96 per day (59.0). Stockport’s case rate is the 6th highest in the country. The Stockport Director of Public Health says the rise is most in unvaccinated groups.

Vaccinations of a first dose have reached 191,247 (185,195) and we are now at 75.4% (73.6%) of the entire 18+ population. 54.6% (52.2%) of the 18+ population have now received two doses. Stockport is designated as one of the “Enhanced Support Areas” in the light of rising case rates of the Delta variant which accounts for 95% of our cases and is 50% more transmissible than previous variants.

The Delta variant accounts for 98% of cases in the region. There is very local information available on the Government web site, but slightly different timings to the above. This is on the “interactive map”. For example in the seven days to 13th June, in the area defined as Marple Bridge and Mellor the rate was 220.4 per 100,000; in Marple and Hawk Green 167.9; in Marple and Rose Hill 179.3 and in High Lane 138.1 (coronavirus.data.gov.uk) .

Update on the pandemic
Here’s the usual weekly update as at Friday 25th June. Last Friday’s figures in brackets.

The rate of infection in Stockport Borough remains high at 219.4 per 100,000 (203.1) and remains well above the national average of 114.0 (77.4). New cases are at 92 per day (85). The Delta variant accounts for 99% of cases in the region.

Vaccinations of a first dose have reached 204,480 (197,821) which includes 5,552 (6,574) in the previous week and we are now at 78.6% (75.4%) of the entire 18+ population. 59.9% (58.1%) of the 18+ population have now received two doses. Last week, 5,144 (6,873) second doses were administered.  Vaccinations are open to anyone aged over 18 (at 1st July). Pop up clinics will be continuing until the end of August.

Last week I gave examples of very local information available on the Government web site, but slightly different timings to the above. To give you some trends, in the seven days to 21st June, in the area defined as Marple Bridge and Mellor the rate was 237.4 (220.4) per 100,000; in Marple and Hawk Green 67.2 (167.9) ; in Marple and Rose Hill 124.1 (179.3) and in High Lane 172.6 (138.1).Cases are dropping except in High Lane. For example total cases are 14 in Marple Bridge and Mellor, 4 in Marple and Hawk Green, 9 in Marple and Rose Hill, 10 in High Lane. I’ve been asked for hospitalisation data but I don’t have access to that sorry.

Although restrictions weren’t fully lifted on 21st June, some rules were relaxed. This can be found on the Government web site. Changes affect weddings and civil partnership ceremonies, funerals and linked commemorative events, care home visits and domestic residential visits for children. There are advisory rules for high infection areas which include Stockport.

Also anyone under 18, regardless of vaccination status, who have been in close contact, will not have to self isolate

Amazon, I don't think that was rothers impled question, statistically with a respective 85.5 & 80.3% vaccination rate.

Its going to highly likely the 30 have been double jabbed and statistically on the older age of the spectrum.

Even with the jab you can still get it but with less likelihood of more serious complications.

Just to add a bit of clarity - being vaccinated does NOT make you completely immune to coronavirus. What it does is drastically reduce the likelihood of you getting it in the first place, it reduces the chances of you passing it on to anyone else and it reduces the changes of you requiring hospital treatment if you you do succumb.

What this means if you should be vaccinated and you should encourage everyone else to get vaccinated. If people weren't getting vaccinated, the numbers in hospital would be far higher.

I do wonder if the figures are actually correct. I don't mean I doubt the number of people with COVID,  but I wonder if the timing of reporting makes it look like a big jump, when in fact previous weeks may have been too low and a lot of cases from those weeks are only now being reported.

It could be of course that the figures are correct; I don't know.

I guess it could be secondary school related, as I presume they are testing again in schools?

The figures are updated daily.  There are sometimes slight delays in reporting data, such as around bank holidays  or because of reporting problems but you are looking at days not weeks.  And such problems covet large areas such as one that exists today which covered Northern Ireland.  The data is published around 4pm daily at https://coronavirus.data.gov.uk/

Basically the data you see quoted is the true picture.  A big spike isn't under reporting.  It's exactly what it is.  A big spike.

Looking at the data for Stockport cases are highest in the 5-19 age brackets.  Which makes sense given how few in those groups have been vaccinated.  Cases are also high in the ages which will correspond to people being most likely to be parents.
https://coronavirus.data.gov.uk/details/cases?areaType=ltla&areaName=Stockport

Stockport has the highest rates in Greater Manchester right now.  This is interesting because as the borough's rates have often been on the low end in Greater Manchester.  Makes me wonder - and this is just speculation - if boroughs like Oldham and Bolton now have higher immunity rates caused by high cases in the past.  This could be the cause of higher rates in Marple as we haven't had it too bad.  Like I say, speculation.

The real thing to be interested in would be hospitalisation figures not positive tests, as that's more of an indicator of how it is working through a population if they aren't protected by natural immunity or reduced complications from the vaccine.

As you pointed out about Oldham and Bolton, it shouldnt necessarily reduce the positive tests if the kids are being tested, as it should still show in the results.

That would be unless they have had all current variants during the big spike and are now effectively immunised.

Update on the pandemic

Here's the usual update as at Friday 24th September. Last Friday's figures in brackets.
The rate of infection in Stockport Borough has risen and is now at 457 (352.7) per 100,000 and remains above the national average of 312.6 (337). New cases are up at 192 (148) per day. Stockport NHS hospitalisations in the week to 19th September have risen to 33 (30).

Vaccinations of a first dose have reached 220,726 (220,285) which is 85.7% (85.6%) of the entire 18+ population. 81.6% (80.9% ) of the 18+ population have now received two doses.
Stockport Borough will begin offering vaccinations of healthy children aged 12-15 from Monday 27th September and will run until 19th November. This will be offered in schools and is in line with NHS and Government advice.

On the question about hospitalisations, these have been included in my post for a few weeks now.

I can't accurately explain the spike in Marple Bridge although I know some local people have theories. What is true across the country is that schools going back will have increased transmissons and co-incides with additional testing so more case are being found. That's not to say the stats locally are any less significant, as what I say above applies to virtually every part of the country.

Just seems strange that the positive numbers continue to rise, especially in Marple with a population circa 23k unless it's being skewed by the college students?.

The data is available publicly only on a borough level.  There is a heatmap on
ttps://coronavirus.data.gov.uk/details/cases?areaType=ltla&areaName=Stockport

Cases are highest in the school age groups, then the 40-49s - parent age.

It's also now increasingly hiting the 90+ group in Stockport.

Still given how few people of all age groups are now wearing masks or taking any precautions, shouldn't surprise anytime that rates are shooting up.

Cloth masks don't do anything to prevent a virus, other than give some a little more confidence to some.

If as you say it's highest amongst parents of school age kids, you can assume the grandparents are catching it from the grandkids.

If a 50yr old parent, the grandparents are likely to be in the late 80 bracket or above.

Perhaps you would like to back that up with some evidence because I haven't seen any that cloth masks do nothing.

Not as effective as medical grade masks, yes.  Not effective at all?  No.

The World Health Organisation is still more than happy to recommend those under 60 wear fabric masks and they know a lot more about this than I do

I find it rather depressingly innevtiable that the emphasis on mask wearing & hygine has all but fizzled out and yet, surprise surprise, the infection rates are rocketing. Its been absolutely ripping through the local schools over the past month - which is why they have now all had to resort to invoking the old 'bubble' and masks restrictions. Not before time, but not a mutter from central government who seem more interested in attacking GP's.

Current government guidance (or lack of) seems to be designed to make sure that all familes with school age kids will get infected no matter what precautions they try to take. That will no doubt ultimately knock on into other age groups. Happy Christmas Granny.

I believe it's been shown that even cloth masks can help prevent transmission from the mask wearer to others. But I think it's correct that they don't offer any significant protection to the wearer her/himself

It depends what you mean by 'still'!  That WHO site is notoriously out of date, and there has been vast amount of research on Covid since some of its pages were published. The one on that link is from last December, 10 months ago.  But other pages on the site are from as far back as May last year, when we really knew very little about Covid - far less than we do now.

Remember the early days of Covid, when some public footpaths were closed because some landowners were so worried about the infection being transmitted via gates and stiles?  And in libraries and bookshops, there was a rule that if you took a book down from a shelf to browse, you were told not to put it back on the shelf, but return it to the desk, so that it could be 'quarantined' for three days!

Things have moved on a lot since then, thanks mainly to research at the Centre for Disease Control in the USA:  https://www.nytimes.com/2021/04/08/health/coronavirus-hygiene-cleaning-surfaces.html.

But the good old WHO site is still full of out-of-date stuff about disinfecting surfaces, even though it's now known that the risk of picking up Covid from touching a surface is less than 1 in 10,000!
Title: Re: Covid19 Information Updates

I wouldn't trust the WHO to organise a proverbial drinks party in a manufacturing facility of said drinks.

Quite simply your confusing the ability of a mask to capture viruses vs using common sense and keeping those you don't know away.

If your so obsessed by wearing your n95 masks, do you throw them away after every single use.

If you had any idea how small the virus is circa 10micron when aerosolised, it shows the utter wastefulness of cloth masks, which even if they captured the virus could never be sterilised effectively at home.

So what's your general solution, lock everyone away forever?
Title: Re: Covid19 Information Updates

So what's your general solution, lock everyone away forever?

Well my solution is to put you in charge as you are clearly an expert

And no my answer is not to lock everyone down forever.  Because it clearly doesn't work, especially with Delta.  Even New Zealand and Australia have finally realised that.

No, my answer is simple common sense.  It's using masks in crowded places.  It's being careful.  It's good ventilation.  It's all the things we are being told to do, but which people aren't doing.  We have a virus raging out of control.  It will never go away totally.  But we're not even trying to minimise it's effects.

And we have people undermining the simple things we can all do to reduce the spread, reduce the impact on the NHS, and to reduce people dying.  People who don't follow the advice. Including our own government. People who write on forums like this that the advice is basically pointless and rubbish.

People are dying because we aren't even trying anymore.

People will die every year due to Covid.  That's undeniable.  But the death rates do not need to be this high

Still better people die then wear a mask, eh?

Explain to me if practically the entire adult population is vaccinated what else can be done

This:
1.   Vaccinate teenagers (and possibly younger children too, in due course). The UK is being too slow (slower than other European countries) at getting teenagers vaccinated, and we are paying the price in the rate of infection.
2.   Require people to show vaccine certificates or proof of a negative test when going to events, pubs, restaurants etc.  Other countries are doing that and are reaping the benefits in lower infection rates.

The reason we are suffering such high infection rates is simply because our dear leader is being held hostage by his libertarian right wing, who are opposed in principle to sensible precautions.

Today programme on Radio 4 this morning had some very interesting info on "the plague" from an expert.
Cases might be on the increase again but are not now "plague-ing" us as much as we might think.  The majority of positive cases aren't making people ill and many of the
positive cases in hospital are only being seen because they've gone into hospital with other illnesses but test positive. Covid isn't what's making them unwell but they become a covid statistic because of the testing and reporting regime. For those that are unwell because of covid, despite the majority of them having underlying conditions (as was and still often is the case) their recovery is inordinately quicker than say 12 months ago.

If you want to wear a mask and hide away fine, just don't expect me to join you.
Ill come and visit you in steepin its not like flue have you had all jabs or are you one of the clever ones .

Hum, well seeing that I've had both jabs.
And whilst I can't prove it I believe I've had covid months before even the very 1St lockdown.

And yes, it was the worst flu I have had for atleast a couple of years I was back to normal after a week and I didn't need to go to Stepping Hill.

The reason we are suffering such high infection rates is simply because our dear leader is being held hostage by his libertarian right wing, who are opposed in principle to sensible precautions.

Yes well, "sensible" is a rather subjective word.

“Sensible” means indoor masks, opening windows, vaccinating teenagers, and vaccine passports. Those are the measures in place in many countries in mainland Europe and they have got infection under much better control than we have.

“Sensible” means indoor masks, opening windows, vaccinating teenagers, and vaccine passports. Those are the measures in place in many countries in mainland Europe and they have got infection under much better control than we have.

Name the countries concerned, and show how their measures in themselves have directly led to fewer infections.

Seeing as you ask so nicely, Melancholy, I will do my best  ::)

The New York Times is a useful source. Here is their current map of the infection:  https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2021/world/covid-cases.html?campaign_id=51&emc=edit_mbe_20211101&instance_id=44290&nl=morning-briefing%3A-europe-edition&regi_id=131392532&segment_id=73200&te=1&user_id=0567d0c3c99811ba543e2a321b874cd4

Here's a sample of current European infection rates per 100,000 population, as listed:

UK: 61
Germany:27
France: 8.9
Portugal 7.7
Italy: 7.3
Spain: 4.1.

The reasons their infection rates are generally lower than ours have been the subject of much analysis by all the epidemiologists and other pundits who ave emerged since Covid first hit us.  They don't all agree, of course, but the general view seems to be that the lower rates of infection in mainland Europe are because of a combination of factors:

The UK started vaccinating earlier than some other countries, and we therefore are seeing waning immunity
Many countries in mainland Europe require masks to be worn indoors and on public transport, but we don't
'Vaccine passports' are widely required for entry to bars and restaurants, theatres, concerts, and even (for example, in Italy) to go to work.
Other countries have been quicker to vaccinate teenagers than we have - this is a useful link about that:  https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-58516207.

I hope that information is helpful Melancholy.

Update on the pandemic

Here's the usual update as at Friday 26th November. Last week’s figures in brackets.

The rate of infection in Stockport Borough has risen back again this week and is now at 387.8 (301.6) per 100,000, which is still below the national average of 437.1 (418.3). New cases are also up at 162.6 (126) per day. Stockport NHS hospitalisations in the week to 21st November are down to 21 (36).

Government advice has changed on the use of lateral flow tests, which are now commonly available locally for home testing and which people are being encouraged to use to manage periods of risk.

I don’t have a figure for first dose vaccinations except that the figure last week (229,491 (227,995) which is 86.2% (86.1%) of the entire 18+ population) has now reached 86.3% of the 18+ population. 211,661 (211,163) or 83.1% (83.0%) of the 18+ population have now received two doses. 83,950 (71,472) residents have received a booster dose which includes 89.6% (85.5%) of the 70+ population.

The area data is as follows, giving rates of infection per 100,000 over the last five weeks, latest last. I’ve revised these figures having done a check back over the last five weeks where some have been adjusted.

Marple Bridge and Mellor: 507.6/592.2/490.7/372.3/643.0
Marple and Hawk Green:   690.1/656.5/370.3/336.6/303.0

As restrictions are lifted and vaccinations are now increasing slowly, I wonder if it is time to reduce this data soon. I feel that infection rates are still valuable to people but the vaccination rates add little now – although vaccination is still encouraged and being made available readily.

Thank you for sharing these @Malcolm Allan I'm inclined to agree that the vaccine info is of less interest than the infection rates and it has been good to see those steadily falling.

Please do continue with the infection rates for the immediate future.

Government guidance has changed and can be seen here under “Living with Covid”:

You should still isolate  for 5 days after a positive test, and beyond until you have had two successive negative tests. Sadly, deaths continue, so the virus has not gone away. Lateral flow tests are still free for now until 1st April.

The area data is as follows, giving rates of infection per 100,000 over the last five weeks, latest last. Data as at 27th March. End figure in brackets is the actual number of cases over the last two weeks, latest last.

Marple Bridge and Mellor: 270.7/287.6/676.8/1,099.8/1,167.5 (65-69)
Marple and Hawk Green: 269.3/168.3/757.4/757.4/993.1 (45-59)
Marple and Rose Hill:   192.1/205.8/644.8/891.8/1,193.6 (6587)
High Lane:   244.3/366.5/558.5/1,116.9/1,029.7 (64-59)
Romiley and Compstall: 116.6/401.6/583.0/893.9/725.5 (69-56)

There are 9 pop up vaccination clinics being set up during the Easter school holidays. Nearest is in Underhill Centre in Romiley.

There is some concern about the accuracy of this data going forward as testing kits are no longer free and it is felt people will test less regularly as a result, hence figures may become an underestimate.

Update on the pandemic

Here's the usual update as at Friday 8th April. Last week’s figures in brackets.

The rate of infection in Stockport Borough has dropped back considerably to 460.8 (756.2) per 100,000, and remains below the national average of 636.3 (873.9). New cases per day have also dropped to 193.1 (285.6). The national rate currently is at 47,621 (75,364). Stockport NHS hospitalisations in the week to 3rd April were up again at 83 (68).

On registered deaths in Stockport, using the measure “covid on the death certificate” there have been 14 (16) in the last six weeks. There is a lag of something like 11 days due to the delay in actual registration paperwork.

The area data is as follows, giving rates of infection per 100,000 over the last five weeks, latest last. Data as at 3rd April. End figure in brackets is the actual number of cases over the last two weeks, latest last.
Marple Bridge and Mellor: 287.6/676.8/1,099.8/1,167.5/575.3 (65-34)
Marple and Hawk Green: 168.3/757.4/757.4/993.1/505.0 (59-30)
Marple and Rose Hill:   205.8/644.8/891.8/1,193.6/768.3 (87-56)
High Lane:   366.5/558.5/1,116.9/1,029.7/593.4 (59-34)
Romiley and Compstall: 401.6/583.0/893.9/725.5/583.0 (56-45)

With the ending of universal testing, the data is now less reliable and I am proposing to stop issuing these statistics soon. I will aim to replace them with any pertinent public information each week.

Thanks for providing all this info. One quick question. Is the hospitalisation figure the number of patients who tested positive for COVID, or the number admitted due to COVID, or the number in intensive care?

I do agree that the number of cases figures will become less meaningful with free test kits ending. I hope you will still be able to provide some info in future updates though.

Thanks and sorry not to reply sooner. It is the number admitted to hospital due to Covid. Not all will be in intensive care and there may be none - I don't have those figures sorry.

I'm about to post a revised set of data, so please do let me know if it gives you what is meaningful and/or helpful.

Update on the pandemic and other news

COVID 19
As mentioned recently, I am cutting back on these updates, partly because the data is less reliable but because we seem to be emerging from what we hope is the worst of the recent infections. It is still very much with us though.

Over the last two weeks the rate of infection has moved from 460.8 to 356.5 to 231.7 per 100,000 (figures on 7, 14, 22 April). As stated before these are an underestimate, but the trend is apparent. ONS estimate that around 5% to 7% of the population are currently covid positive.

On registered deaths in Stockport, using the measure “covid on the death certificate” the total of the previous 6 weeks has moved from 16 (7th April) to 14 (14th April) and is still at 14 (22nd April). There is a lag of something like 11 days due to the delay in actual registration paperwork. Hospitalisation last week was the same as the previous week at 89.

Local case numbers are as below showing movement over four weeks, latest figures last, this time at 22nd April
Marple Bridge and Mellor: 65-34-20-22
Marple and Hawk Green: 59-30-39-31
Marple and Rose Hill:   87-56-30-22
High Lane:   59-34-22-16
Romiley and Compstall: 56-45-26-25

Thank you for that. I think the information you provide is as useful as it can be and I think we are all very grateful for it. It helps understand what has been and is going on.
